Milkwood Steiner School is situated on Larrakia land (Darwin), in the tropical north of Australia delivering a Steiner Curriculum to 170 students from Kindergarten to Year 10. In 2023, Milkwood’s Annual School Survey incorporated a new goal based on parent feedback for curriculum development in the Australian Steiner Curriculum Framework’s Physical Education / Movement curriculum for Primary-Middle School students in 2024. This HPE Position Description seeks to bring attention to the Australian Steiner Curriculum Framework’s HPE standards by modelling this as a specialist subject, with the goal of both increasing student access to this subject area while also increasing class teachers’ capacities to develop their own integrated HPE programs.
Key Responsibilities
Work effectively with the College of Teachers, Principal and Administration StaffPlan, implement, document, assess and report on HPE Classes aligned to the Australian Steiner Curriculum Framework’s Health and Physical Education Curriculum, in consultation with the Principal and College of TeachersRun an inclusive HPE program including weekly sessions for Class 2-8, including considerations for students with educational adjustment plans and other adjustments for individual students based on best practice interventions for inclusion, wellbeing, and learning.Maintain accurate records of class attendance, engage with incident reporting, behaviour management reporting and mandatory reporting as required.Attend relevant meetings, including a reasonable number of planning meetings, at the discretion of the Principal.Ensure appropriate behaviour of students in class, around the school and whilst on excursions or camps.Manage the proper use of the school’s PE equipment, ensuring that the aesthetics, layout, and management of the equipment reflects the values of Milkwood Steiner School and supports teaching and learning.Engage in continuous improvement of, and recommendations to the Principal for HPE at Milkwood.Support the development staff in the HPE curriculum, in collaboration with the College of Teachers, Learning Enrichment Teacher and Principal.Key Selection Criteria

Demonstrated excellence in areas of nutrition, health and wellbeing, sports and outdoor education.A commitment to the principles of Steiner Education, including qualifications and / or commitment to Professional Development in Steiner EducationDemonstrated experience planning, delivering and assessing a child-focused Steiner curriculum, with classroom management and organisational skillsDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and community including skills in communicationA love for children and an inclusive approach that values diversity and wellbeingExcellent understandings of self-care and insight into own support needsAll applicants must be eligible for Teacher Registration in the Northern Territory and provide a current Ochre Card, Police Check and First Aid Certificate.
