About our team

Cyber & Infrastructure Security | Critical Infrastructure Risk & Reg | Auscheck | Background Checking & Credential Services

The Background Checking and Credential Services (BCCS) section is the operational hub of AusCheck, including :

  • Issuing Body (IB) team and
  • Background Checking (BC) team.

The IB team conducts identity verification interviews for the ASIC and MSIC schemes, as well as manual reviews for all schemes administered by AusCheck, to ensure all information and documentation provided by applicants is accurate and correct before details of the applicant are lodged with the BC team. The IB team also prints and dispatches ASICs and MSICs for eligible applicants.

The BC team facilitate background checks for applicants of schemes administered by AusCheck, the team makes an assessment to determine if the offences are Security Relevant Offences (SRO) (the criteria for SROs vary for each scheme).

  • Duties and responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of high quality templates and operational documents to support the function of the team when required
  • Complete operational functions of the section such as :
  • Conducting in-person and virtual identity verification interviews

  • Processing application submissions across the various AusCheck schemes
  • Process remediation of applications, including submission to troubleshooting when paused in the AusCheck portal
  • Assist with integration errors where required
  • Assessment of criminal histories against security-relevant offences
  • Production and distribution of security identification cards
  • Manage enquiries via written correspondence or verbally, including in the context of non-routine circumstances. Seek advice and escalate issues and refer these to appropriate channels when necessary
  • Work under general guidance with some level of autonomy
  • Develop sound subject matter knowledge and professional judgement.

  • Must be able to obtain and hold aviation and maritime security identification cards (ASIC and MSIC)
  • Must have a myID account registered to 'standard' identity strength or higher (requires personal smart phone device)
  • Capacity to communicate effectively both orally and in writing (sound writing skills required and ability to take and make verbal / audible phone calls) with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrate a strong attention to detail
  • Strong experience and knowledge in using the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to complete a document and facial examination course and other internal mandatory training for the Department.

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

    The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and :

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
  • In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
