Overview
Summary
The Business Analyst’s role is to analyze, specify and validate the business needs of the organizations. In this role, the BA will plan, design, develop, and launch efficient business, financial, and operations systems in support of core organizational functions and business processes. This includes gathering and analyzing data in support of business cases, proposed projects, and systems requirements. The Business Analyst is also responsible for supporting the development process, and ensuring that project deliverables are met according to specifications. This individual will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help maximize the benefit of IT system investments.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Meets with executive leadership, decision makers, business owners, technical owners, and end users to define business, financial, and operations requirements and systems goals, and identify and resolve systems issues
- Collaborates with project managers and project sponsors to determine project scope and vision
- Identifies project stakeholders and establish roles and responsibilities (process owners, change champions, etc.)
- Conducts interviews and product analysis to gather user requirements via workshops, questionnaires, surveys, site visits, workflow storyboards, use cases, scenarios, and other methods
- Develops and utilizes standard templates to accurately and concisely write requirement specifications
- Translates conceptual user requirements into functional requirements in a clear manner that is comprehensible to developers / project team
- Develops prototypes of interfaces and attributes based on findings
- Analyzes and verifies requirements for completeness, consistency, comprehensibility, feasibility, and conformity to standards
- Identifies and establishes scope and parameters of requirements analysis in order to define impact, outcome criteria, and measure-taking actions
- Works with stakeholders and project team to prioritize collected requirements
- Creates process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to developers and / or the project team
- Develops and conducts peer reviews to ensure that requirement specifications are correctly interpreted
- Manages and track the status of requirements throughout the project lifecycle; enforce and redefine as necessary
- Communicates changes, enhancements, and modifications – verbally or through written documentation project managers, sponsors, and other stakeholders so that issues and solutions are understood
- Researches, reviews, and analyzes the effectiveness and efficiency of existing requirements-gathering processes and develop strategies for enhancing or further leveraging these processes
- Assists in conducting research on software and hardware products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts
- Establishes practices and procedures that work towards the continuous improvement of the requirements process
- Provides guidance and / or instruction to junior staff members
Qualifications

College diploma or university degree in software engineering, computer science, or business administration or equivalent work experience5 or more years in business analyst experience (Proven experience with business and technical requirements analysis, elicitation, modeling, verification, and methodology development)Ability to create systematic and consistent requirements specifications in both technical and user-friendly language2 years direct experience in the creation of test scripts and the execution of testing such as Smoke, String, Unit, Load, System, QA, UAT, PIV, Regression or othersStrong knowledge of testing best practices and methodologiesExperience with testing web and desktop applicationsProven data analysis, data verification, and problem-solving abilitiesExcellent PC skills and technical fluencyFamiliarity with software and database development and network architectureExperience with formal project management methodologiesExemplary attention to detailD esired / Preferred Qualifications
