Job description

1. Strategic Leadership

  • Define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Buying & Merchandising function in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Influence Board and C-Suite level decisions by providing commercial insights, consumer trends, and competitive benchmarking.
  • Anticipate global market shifts, evolving consumer behaviors, and competitor strategies to ensure future readiness.
  • Define international sourcing norms and establish geography-specific buying and merchandising strategies.
  • Drive organizational P&L and working capital management, balancing stock holding with cash flow optimization.

2. Commercial & Vendor Management

  • Build and nurture strategic global supplier ecosystems (alliances, sourcing hubs, and new geographies).
  • Lead large-scale negotiations to secure favorable trade terms, exclusivity, and joint business planning agreements.
  • Balance short-term growth objectives with long-term value creation, sustainability, and brand positioning.
  • Oversee vendor profitability, stock health, trade funding, and promotional ROI.
  • Shape organizational policies on sustainability, ethics, and risk management.
  • 3. Business Performance & Analytics

  • Use historical data, seasonality, and market insights to project demand and guide Open-to-Buy (OTB) planning.
  • Drive category mix optimization (premium vs. mass, traffic drivers vs. margin drivers).
  • Monitor and optimize KPIs : revenue, margin %, stock turns, OTB utilization, sell-through, and working capital efficiency.
  • Conduct scenario planning and risk assessments (pricing shifts, supply chain delays, geopolitical risks).
  • 4. People Leadership

  • Build, lead, and inspire a high-performing multi-category team of buyers, category heads, and analysts.
  • Develop future leaders through succession planning, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Act as a cultural role model, upholding organizational values, ethics, and integrity in all interactions.
  • Foster a collaborative, cross-functional approach with Supply Chain, Finance, Marketing, and Operations.
  • 5. Process & Transformation

  • Champion automation, digital tools, and process innovation to drive scalability and efficiency.
  • Lead organizational transformation towards data-driven decision-making and agile category management.
  • Represent the company with global suppliers, trade forums, and industry bodies to strengthen market position.1. Strategic Leadership
