General Manager - Purchase

Responsibilities :

• Planning of annual material requirements aligned with budget objectives; establishing procurement strategy, targets, and action plans.
• Driving cost reduction initiatives in procurement and logistics.
• Supervising maintenance of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 related procedures.
• Hands-on experience with e-procurement platforms (Ariba, M-Junction).
• Managing OPEX & CAPEX purchases, contracts, materials, stores, EXIM, inventory, logistics, and warehouse management.
• Procuring ferrous / non-ferrous metals, ferro alloys, fluxes, refractories, fuels, lubes, consumables, MRO, and engineering materials.
• Managing total contracts linked with monthly steel production.
• Supplier management : contracts, business process setup, negotiations, delivery, quality matrix management.
• Offshore material supply management focusing on inventory, lead time, currency fluctuation, quality, and legal issues.
• Scheduling offshore shipments for critical materials (refractories, major machinery, spares, consumables).
• Expertise in procurement of mining spares and services (support materials, cables, oil / lubricants, explosives, mill balls, pump spares, manpower).
• Expertise in procurement of spares for trackless equipment.
• Proficient in SAP MM module.
• Warehouse and vendor management.
• Manpower management and contract administration.
• Cost optimization and outbound logistics.
• Implementing quality systems like TS16949, TPM.
• Ensuring development and implementation of effective policies and procedures.
• Experience in sales of primary and secondary products; handling customer complaints.
• Designing rolling process parameters and steel chemistry as per product requirements.
• Metallurgical and mechanical testing.
• Managing raw materials requirements across multiple plants.
• Negotiating and placing POs & LOIs, processing LCs with banks, mediating issues, and following up on deliveries.
• Ensuring complete purchase requisitions : quotations, comparison charts, negotiation.
• Vendor development to improve quality, rates, and delivery schedules.
• Purchasing electrical / control panels, consumables, fasteners, bearings, material handling, telecom systems, importing from US and Europe.
• Maintaining purchase budgets via cost competitiveness and landed cost reduction.
• Auditing supplier invoices and coordinating payments with accounts.
• Handling import processes : quotation, ordering, payment, pickup, delivery.
