Job description

A sales officer for an agribusiness sells agricultural products like fertilizers, pesticides, and seeds by building relationships with farmers, retailers, and distributors. Key responsibilities include achieving sales targets, promoting products, managing a sales territory, providing customer support, and handling administrative tasks like reporting and payments. The role requires strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, as well as knowledge of agricultural products and markets.

Key responsibilities

  • Sales and promotion :  Promote and sell agricultural products to farmers, retailers, and distributors.
  • Territory management :  Identify and develop new business opportunities, manage a sales territory, and ensure product stock availability.
  • Customer relationships :  Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, dealers, and retailers through regular visits and communication.
  • Product education :  Educate customers on product features, benefits, and proper usage.
  • Customer support :  Respond to customer inquiries, address concerns or complaints, and resolve issues like product complaints or delivery problems.
  • Sales planning :  Plan and execute sales strategies and campaigns to achieve sales targets.
  • Reporting and administration :  Maintain accurate sales records, submit regular reports, and coordinate with internal departments for support.

Key skills and qualifications

  • Skills :  Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills; a customer-centric approach; and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Qualifications :  A bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Marketing, or a related field is often required.
  • Knowledge :  A good understanding of agricultural products and the local market is essential.
  • Other :  The ability to travel as needed and proficiency in sales and marketing tools may also be required.
