Job Description : Head of Payables

Department : Finance

Reports to : CFO / Financial Director

Lead and oversee the accounts payable function, managing vendor payments, team operations, process improvement, and compliance to ensure robust financial performance and accurate records. Responsible for strategic and operational leadership over the Payables team and function.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee timely and accurate processing of all payments, vendor invoices, and expense reports.
• Develop, implement, and monitor payables policies and procedures for efficiency, compliance, and control.
• Lead accounts payable team, including hiring, training, goal setting, and ongoing development.
• Review, validate, and approve invoices; ensure adherence to company policies, contractual terms, and regulatory requirements.
• Manage vendor relationships and resolve payment disputes or queries.
• Maintain accurate records and reconciliations; oversee month-end and year-end closing processes for payables.
• Optimize payables processes, automation, and risk prevention controls.
• Prepare, analyze, and report on payables metrics : aging, cash flow, forecasts, and performance.
• Coordinate with procurement, treasury, and accounting teams to ensure alignment and timely payments.
• Support financial audits with documentation and process narratives.
• Drive continuous improvement in payables efficiency, quality, and Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CA / MBA preferred.
• 7+ years of accounts payable experience with at least 3 years in a managerial / supervisory role.
• Strong expertise in payables processes, team leadership, and compliance management.
• Proficiency in ERP / accounting systems and advanced MS Excel.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
