As a Mainframe Modernization Application Developer at Kyndryl, you will be at the forefront of designing, developing, and implementing cutting-edge software solutions. Your work will play a critical role in our business offering, your code will deliver value to our customers faster than ever before, and your attention to detail and commitment to quality will be critical in ensuring the success of our products.

Using design documentation and functional programming specifications, you will be responsible for implementing identified components. You will ensure that implemented components are appropriately documented, unit-tested, and ready for integration into the final product. You will have the opportunity to architect the solution, test the code, and deploy and build a CI / CD pipeline for it.

As a valued member of our team, you will provide work estimates for assigned development work, and guide features, functional objectives, or technologies being built for interested parties. Required Technical and Professional Experience

7 to 11 years of experience in Mainframe Application Modernization, utilizing a range of technologies and approaches to transform legacy systems into modern, scalable solutions.

Lead the design, development, and modernization of applications migrating from legacy mainframe platforms (COBOL, Assembler, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM) to modern architectures (Java, microservices, cloud-native).

Own end-to-end technical delivery for modernization streams, ensuring scalability, performance, and business continuity.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior developers and testers, guiding them on modernization best practices.

Collaborate closely with architects to define modernization approaches (replatforming, refactoring, or re-architecting).

Develop and optimize APIs, microservices, and integration frameworks for decoupling legacy systems.

Support data migration and transformation strategies, ensuring integrity and compliance with business rules.

Drive automation and CI / CD adoption, integrating testing and deployment processes into DevOps pipelines.

Evaluate and recommend modernization tools and accelerators (Micro Focus, Blu Age, Astadia, AWS Mainframe Modernization service, etc.).

Produce and maintain technical documentation, design specifications, and code standards for modernization projects.

Proactively troubleshoot, resolve complex issues, and ensure value realization during project execution.

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

Bachelor's degree in computer science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Certification in one or more of the hyperscalers (Azure, AWS, and Google GCP) - otherwise, you can obtain certifications with Kyndryl.

Experience with DevOps tools and modern engineering practices.

Experience with modernization tools and strategies (e.g., rehosting, refactoring, rearchitecting).

Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in an Agile development environment.
