Associate / Contractor - Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), India Social & Environment Group

Position Description :

Bank's Social & Environment Group supports the company's responsible growth strategy by working with lines of business and support functions to embed sustainability into everything we do. As part of the team, the role will support the Bank's community investment efforts in India besides supporting with philanthropic platform management and employee volunteering for Asia Pacific (APAC) on a need basis.

While the Bank's multiple award-winning international social and environmental platform is steady state, the incumbent will be required to continuously reassess India philanthropy strategy to ensure we remain current within the dynamic developmental space and aligned to any evolving requirement as per laws governing CSR in India. This will require the potential candidate to bring both tactical and strategic innovation to our philanthropic portfolio in terms of enhancing partnerships, and opportunities to collaborate with teams across the company, as well as helping to deepen impact measurement process.

Working with the APAC and India Leads, the role will also need to function in a cross-collaborative environment working with support teams and lines of businesses across the Bank to cascade and amplify our work among communities, clients, peers and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Grant Management
  • Support with planning and implementation of the CSR strategy, policy and annual action plan in India that has a strong evidence based and impact focus
  • Pre-grant due-diligence including working with NGO partners to refine CSR proposals (program designs and budgets) before sharing them with the CSR Group / Committee and other stakeholders for feedback and approvals as per the Bank's governance protocols
  • Lead monitoring and evaluation of grant portfolio and India CSR projects entailing programmatic and grant utilization reviews and implementing timely course correction action with NGO partners to ensure compliance with the CSR Rules
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Partnership Development :
  • Support the APAC and India Leads in building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, including NGOs, community organizations, academic institutions, consultants and other service providers, and beneficiaries
  • Identify potential partners for collaborative projects and funding opportunities
  • Create awareness and percolate the Bank's vision for CSR / Philanthropy among a diverse internal stakeholder ecosystem that includes our CSR Group and Committee, LMT and Board, Employee networks and volunteers
  • Support the marketing and communications of the Bank's CSR activities internally and externally
  • Work closely with other International philanthropy team members to continue to build on our strong international platform
  • Risk management and Compliance :
  • Support with the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines that govern the function's operations and activities
  • Work closely with the APAC and India SE Leads, Finance and Secretarial teams, ensure adherence to governance structures and processes to ensure transparency, accountability, and compliance with India regulatory requirements
  • Support Finance and Secretarial teams with disclosures and reporting on mandatory CSR spend and facilitating third party impact assessments as required per India CSR Rules
  • Employee Engagement & Volunteering
  • Support with employee engagement & volunteerism program In India, guiding volunteer leads and event managers
  • Support with any regional / international employee engagement campaigns while innovating to introduce signature regional campaigns

Key Requirements :

  • 6-9 years experience in the development sector of which at least 3-5 years should be within the Indian Corporate Social Responsibility space
  • Strong understanding of the CSR Rules and requirements in India as per the Companies Act and should be able to run the end to end process independently or with minimal support
  • Knowledge of livelihood and entrepreneurship models, community development, and the broader philanthropy space in India along with a sound understanding of impact measurement methodologies
  • Adept at using technology tools such as MS Word, Excel, PPT and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communications and presentation skills, with the ability to build and shape relationships with diverse range of internal & external stakeholders
  • Willingness to travel within India as needed
  • Desired Skills

  • Exposure to working in a highly matrix organization & ability to connect with senior stakeholders (both local and global)
  • An ability to thrive as a team player within a diverse and inclusive culture with high energy, high expectations, and a complex matrix structure
  • Experience in volunteering and / or managing relations with existing Bank supported charities would be an advantage
  • Interest in Arts and Culture
  • Innovative and creative mindset, fostering a culture of forward thinking
