We are looking for an experienced
Senior Project Manager
with a
telecommunications industry background
, specialising in
wireline and wireless network projects
This role blends
project management excellence, financial governance, and strategic program leadership
to deliver enterprise-scale initiatives.
The Senior Project Manager will lead high-profile telecom programs, oversee budgets and scorecard metrics, and ensure alignment with organisational strategy — while mentoring and supporting other Project Managers within the PMO.
This is a senior-level position suited for someone who thrives in a structured yet dynamic environment, understands the nuances of telecom project delivery, and can drive measurable business impact.
Key Focus Areas
Telecommunication Projects :
Manage delivery of end-to-end
wireline and wireless
network projects, ensuring technical accuracy and operational readiness.
Financial Management :
Maintain full accountability for
project financials
, including budgeting, forecasting, variance tracking, and CAPEX / OPEX management.
Strategic Program Leadership :
Support strategic PMO goals, steering committee reporting, and performance dashboards.
PMO Support :
Mentor, train, and guide other Project Managers while driving process standardisation and operational excellence.
Detailed Responsibilities
Project Management
Lead all phases of telecom programs — initiation, planning, execution, control, and closure.
Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, and resource plans aligned with strategic goals.
Manage dependencies, risks, issues, and escalations to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
Ensure adherence to quality, safety, and regulatory standards within the telecom domain.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Network Operations, IT, Finance, and Vendors).
Provide coaching in project methodologies (Lean Six Sigma, Own.it, Agile).
Financial Management
Oversee cost controls and financial governance at Initiative and Investment Group (II & IG) levels.
Manage financial forecasting, variance analysis, and quarterly budget alignment.
Present CAPEX and OPEX summaries during management reviews (CMT, QEMR, YEMR, Capital Triage).
Ensure compliance with financial reporting standards and support all audit requirements.
Monitor project-level spend and ensure financial health of telecom initiatives.
Strategic Program Management
Manage large, strategic, and high-impact telecom programs.
Prepare and present updates for Steering Committees and leadership forums.
Align projects with TELUS’ digital transformation strategy.
Support long-term planning, prioritization, and execution of business-critical programs.
Scorecard Metrics & Reporting
Manage PMO scorecards, dashboards, and cross-functional performance reports.
Track and improve telecom program KPIs — AUC, Hardstop, stale commitments, reservations, cycle times.
Create and present “Get to Green” recovery plans for delayed or at-risk projects.
Deliver weekly / monthly performance updates and Full Monty presentations for senior leadership.
Process Improvement & Automation
Drive process improvement initiatives to enhance PMO efficiency.
Identify and implement automation and AI-driven improvements in project workflows.
Act as a
champion for SAP, Appian, and Masterworkflow
systems used in PMO operations.
Lead initiatives around pulse checks, closure processes, and stale reservation reduction.
PMO Support & Leadership
Conduct interlock meetings with Project Managers and stakeholder teams.
Lead onboarding, mentoring, and training sessions for new PMs.
Oversee adherence to PMO governance, scorecard, and dashboard standards.
Drive a culture of collaboration, recognition, and knowledge sharing within the PMO.
Support team engagement and recognition programs.
Manager Support & Escalation
Provide coverage and assistance to PMO Manager as needed.
Maintain PMO Google Drive documentation and reports.
Manage escalations promptly to ensure critical issues are addressed effectively.
Skills & Knowledge
Deep understanding of
telecommunication project delivery
(wireline, wireless, network infrastructure).
Strong command of
project management principles
(Agile, Waterfall, or Hybrid).
Proven expertise in
financial management
variance tracking
, and
scorecard reporting
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and presentation skills.
Advanced knowledge of
Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Slides, Looker Studio, Gemini)
Working knowledge of
SAP
Appian
, or similar workflow automation tools.
Lean Six Sigma or process improvement background preferred.
Experience
7–10 years
of total experience in
telecommunication project or program management
Proven track record managing
wireline and wireless projects
in an enterprise environment.
Experience with
cross-functional collaboration
financial governance
, and
executive reporting
Prior work experience in telecom infrastructure delivery, PMO operations, or strategic project management is required.
