We are seeking an exceptional and highly motivated L3 Application Support Engineer to join our elite technical team. In this critical role, you will be the final escalation point for our most challenging application issues, ensuring the stability, integrity, and performance of our core business systems. This is more than just a support role; you will be a key player who not only resolves complex incidents but also contributes directly to development activities, driving continuous improvement and innovation.
What You'll Do :
- Be the Expert : Serve as the ultimate authority for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex incidents related to our applications on both AS / 400 (iSeries) and modern Windows-based platforms.
- Proactive Monitoring & Analysis : Utilize industry-leading tools like Dynatrace and IBM Monitoring to proactively oversee application health, dive deep into logs, and identify potential issues before they impact the business.
- Bridge Support & Development : Seamlessly transition between support and development tasks, applying your coding skills in RPG, Cobol, .Net, and Java to implement bug fixes and contribute to feature enhancements.
- Problem-Solving & Innovation : Apply your high-end reasoning and analytical skills to investigate root causes, architect lasting solutions, and drive system stability.
- Knowledge & Mentorship : Develop and maintain clear, reliable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), create comprehensive knowledge management articles, and assist in training end-users to foster expertise across the organization.
- Collaborate & Communicate : Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, infrastructure specialists, and business stakeholders, ensuring clear and effective communication on all technical matters.
Core Qualifications (Must-Haves) :
Deep AS / 400 Expertise : Proven, hands-on experience with the AS / 400 operating system, including strong proficiency in RPG (preferred) or Cobol, along with DB2, CL, and advanced SQL skills.Insurance Domain Knowledge : Significant experience working within the insurance sector, with a strong understanding of business processes in the EMEA or US markets.Master Troubleshooter : Exceptional ability to diagnose and resolve complex, multi-faceted application issues with a logical and persistent approach.Stellar Communication : Impeccable verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.Monitoring Acumen : Hands-on experience with application monitoring tools such as Dynatrace, IBM Monitoring, and a proven ability to read and interpret complex application and system logs.Technical Proficiencies (Should-Haves) :
Modern Stack Experience : Good understanding of the Windows operating system, with development and support experience in .Net, Java, and APIs.Networking Fundamentals : A solid grasp of core networking concepts (TCP / IP, DNS, Firewalls) and how they impact application performance.Bonus Points (Nice-to-Haves) :
