Job Description of Technician - CSSD
Duties & Responsibilities :
- Responsible for decontamination, assembly, sterilization, storage and distribution of
medical and surgical supplies and equipment used in the care and treatment of patients
following infection control practices.
To maintain high standard of environmental cleanliness.To collect, receive, sort, clean, contaminated instruments, containers, treatment traysand other supplies and equipment that have been used in the operation theatre, NICU,PICU,wards, emergency (casualty) room and prioritize sterilization depending on emergency requisitions.
To carry out manual cleaning and cleaning by machines of the used re-processible items.To inspect and replace missing or damaged equipment (if possible), carry outlubrication / minor repairs (if required) before packing for Sterilization.
To operate automatic and semi-automatic cleaning and sterilizing equipment likeUltrasonic cleaners, Steam sterilizers, Ethylene oxide sterilizers, etc.
To accurately carry out the cleaning, disinfection and sterilization process for allre-processible items using the method determined by the manufacturer and Infection
control.
To maintain Quality Control parameters for all methods of sterilization and to documentthe effectiveness of each method using Physical, Chemical and Biological indicators.
To supply with documentation in a timely manner sterile instruments, linen anddressing material to all departments such as OT, NICU, PICU, Wards and areas where sterile
supplies are essential.
Maintain inventory of supplies and materials from Stores to include documentingusage, issuing, receiving and reordering as assigned.
Report problems and information of operational nature to the department head orsupervisor for appropriate action.
To ensure care and maintenance of equipment such as cleaners, autoclaves etc.To perform other related duties incidental to work described as assigned.To actively participate in training programs as organized from time to time by theorganization.
To actively participate in training of newly joined trainee technicians.Will be responsible for any other duties assigned by the Reporting Authority from time to time.Skill Set :
Ability to comprehend verbal instructions given by the In charge OT or supervisor of thedepartment.
To understand and apply knowledge of medical terminology.To think independently and exercise ones own judgment in determining actions duringemergencies.
Have an affinity for teamwork.Technical skills required for using and maintaining the various sterilizationequipment and the computer .
Ability to comprehend written instructions given by the supervisors and the otherrelated departmental personnel.
Ability to plan & organize ones work schedule effectively.Being a service provider listening and speaking are essential requirements tounderstand and carry out the instructions given by users.
