Job Description
Why you will love working at Oxfam
As part of the Public Engagement team, you will use your skills, qualifications, lived experience and initiative to tackle inequality and fight poverty. Yes, you read that right, lived experience and initiative, because it is not all about key selection criteria.
Research shows that women will only apply for a job if they meet 100% of the selection criteria, while men will apply if they meet an average of 60%. We understand that life teaches us so much, so if you don’t meet all the criteria but just know that you have what it takes, then please apply.
Are you re-entering the workforce after a career break? Don’t worry! We are looking for people with a fire in their belly and a commitment to ending poverty. As long as you know your subject matter, we can teach you the other stuff and show you what’s happened while you were away.
The Role
Oxfam Australia (OAU) is one of the most influential international social justice organisations in Australia and part of one of the most effective international confederations of aid and humanitarian agencies.
We are working towards a better, more equal world for all of us – where women and men can use their own ideas, voices and actions to build a future free from the injustice of poverty. As the Media Adviser, you will be within the Public Engagement section, an area charged with connecting with the hearts and minds of Australians to tackle poverty together. The Public Engagement section enables Oxfam Australia to speak out on the big issues, hold decision-makers to account and encourage supporters to invest in systemic change. We work collectively with Fundraising to ensure that supporters are at the centre of our engagement and raise awareness of Oxfam to drive growth in brand, donors, influence and income.
In this role, you will collaborate with others across the agency in order to develop and implement media strategies that support strategic priorities, maximising reactive media opportunities and liaising with media outlets and content creators / social media commentators to ensure Oxfam Australia maintains its strong share of voice in the Australian media market.
