Role Overview :

An ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) Tester ensures the accuracy, reliability, and performance of data as it moves through ETL pipelines. This role involves validating data flows, identifying discrepancies, and ensuring data integrity across systems. ETL Testers work closely with data engineers, analysts, and developers to maintain high standards of data quality.

Key Responsibilities :

Design and execute test plans and test cases for ETL processes.

Validate data extraction, transformation, and loading procedures.

Perform backend database testing using SQL queries.

Automate testing using tools like QTP, Selenium, or TestNG.

Review data models, mappings, and architecture documents.

Identify, document, and track defects using tools like JIRA or HP ALM.

Collaborate with development and UAT teams for defect resolution and sign-offs.

Conduct regression testing after ETL updates.

Generate reports using tools like Cognos and compare with EDW databases.

Mentor junior testers and contribute to process improvements.

Required Skills :

Strong SQL skills for data validation and query writing.

Experience with ETL tools (e.g., Informatica, Talend, Apache NiFi).

Familiarity with data warehouse concepts (e.g., star schema, snowflake schema).

Knowledge of UNIX / Linux and shell scripting.

Understanding of dimensional modeling, facts, and dimensions.

Experience with automation tools (e.g., Selenium, QTP).

Proficiency in defect management and testing standards.

Preferred Qualifications :

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.

Certifications like ISTQB or CSTE.

Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).

Familiarity with programming languages (Python, Java).

Knowledge of data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI)
