Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent : This is typically the minimum educational requirement.

Bar tending School / Mixology Courses : While not always strictly required, completing a reputable bar-tending course or mixology program provides a strong foundation in drink preparation, recipes, and bar operations.

Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Certification : This is crucial and often legally mandated. In India, depending on the state or union territory, there might be specific licensing or certification requirements for serving alcohol. Bartenders must understand and adhere to local laws regarding age verification, preventing over-intoxication, and refusing service when necessary.

Food Hygiene / Safety Certificate : Knowledge of and adherence to food safety and hygiene standards is important for maintaining a clean bar and safe drink preparation.

Core Bar tending Skills (Hard Skills) :

Mixology Proficiency :

Extensive Drink Knowledge : A deep understanding of classic cocktails, popular mixed drinks, spirits, liqueurs, wines, beers, and non-alcoholic beverages.

Recipe Adherence & Creativity : Ability to accurately follow established recipes and, for more advanced roles, create new and innovative cocktails (mixology).

Pouring & Measuring : Precise free-pouring or jigger-based measuring to ensure consistency and control costs.

Garnishing & Presentation : Skilful garnishing and aesthetically pleasing presentation of drinks.

Understanding Flavour Profiles : Knowledge of how different ingredients and spirits blend to create balanced flavours.

Bar Equipment Operation & Maintenance : Proficiency in using and cleaning blenders, shakers, strainers, jiggers, ice machines, draft systems, coffee machines, etc.

Cash Handling & POS Systems : Accurate handling of cash, credit card transactions, processing payments, and operating Point of Sale (POS) systems.

Inventory Management (Basic) : Understanding how to track stock, identify popular items, minimise waste, and assist with ordering supplies.

Cleanliness & Organisation : Maintaining a sparkling clean bar area, glassware, and tools throughout the shift.

Speed & Efficiency : Ability to work quickly and accurately, especially during peak hours, to serve multiple customers simultaneously without compromising quality.
