The Executive in the Office of Press and Media plays a pivotal role in shaping the public image and narrative of the University through strategic media communications. This role demands strong editorial judgment, media intelligence, and coordination skills to ensure timely, accurate, and impactful representation of the University’s initiatives across platforms.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Media Relations and Outreach
- Build, nurture, and manage relationships with journalists, editors, and media houses across print, digital, and broadcast platforms.
- Identify opportunities for proactive media outreach to highlight the University’s achievements, events, and thought leadership.
- Coordinate interviews, media bytes, and feature stories with university leadership and subject experts.
- Maintain a dynamic media contact database and track media coverage across regional and national outlets.
2. Press Communication and Content Development
Draft press releases, media advisories, statements, and post-event notes in line with institutional messaging.Develop compelling content for feature articles, authored pieces, and op-eds on behalf of university leaders and faculty.Support storytelling efforts by identifying strong internal news angles and translating academic achievements into public-facing narratives.Ensure that all communication materials are factually accurate, engaging, and aligned with brand tone and compliance requirements.3. Brand Visibility and Strategic Positioning
Contribute to the development and execution of media communication strategies that enhance institutional visibility and reputation.Collaborate with internal departments, schools, and centers to identify newsworthy activities and align them with the university’s PR calendar.Manage campaign-based communication initiatives tied to rankings, admissions, partnerships, and academic events.Leverage both traditional and digital media channels to build a cohesive and consistent brand presence.4. Event Communication and On-Ground Media Management
Plan and execute media engagement activities during key university events, conferences, and convocations.Facilitate Media Familiarization (FAM) visits, press briefings, and on-campus coverage opportunities.Prepare event-specific press kits, background notes, and talking points for leadership.Coordinate with photographers, videographers, and design teams to ensure high-quality visual documentation of events.5. Monitoring, Reporting, and Analysis
Conduct daily media monitoring to track coverage, sentiment, and emerging trends relevant to higher education and the university.Prepare comprehensive media reports and analyses for internal review and leadership updates.Maintain archives of press releases, media mentions, and published articles for documentation and impact assessment.Evaluate the effectiveness of outreach activities and recommend strategies for improving visibility and engagement.6. Thought Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement
Assist in conceptualizing and placing thought leadership articles for senior leadership in national publications.Collaborate with academic and research teams to translate scholarly work into media-friendly content.Qualifications :
3 - 5 years of experience in writing and crafting any form of contentSkills in managing media and public relationsSolid communication skillsProficiency in writing for various PR activitiesAbility to work within a team and manage multiple tasksBachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field is preferred
