Job Description : Head of Accounts

About the Role :
Sterling Oil & Gas, Nigerias 3rd largest Oil Producer with 26,000 Nationals & 3,500 Indian Expats , is seeking a dynamic and seasoned Head of Accounts to lead multi-entity financial operations, ensure robust compliance, and drive financial excellence across our Oil & Gas value chain.
This is a key leadership role for an experienced finance professional with deep expertise in accounting, reporting, taxation, and internal controls within Oil & Gas / Petrochemical / Refinery / Power / Metals & Mining / EPC environments.
Key Accounting & Reporting :
- Lead end-to-end accounting operations (GL, AP, AR, Payroll, Fixed Assets, Inventory, Intercompany).
- Ensure accurate monthly / quarterly / year-end closing & financial statements (IFRS / GAAP).
- Drive MIS reporting, variance analysis, and management dashboards.
- Strengthen accuracy, timeliness, and data integrity.
Compliance, Audit & Controls :
Ensure compliance with VAT / GST, Corporate Tax, Withholding Tax & other regulatory requirements.Lead statutory, internal & tax audits with zero major observations.Establish and monitor Internal Financial Controls & SOPs.Working Capital & Cash Flow :
Manage banking, vendor payments, receivables, reconciliations & treasury operations.Improve DSO / DPO, cash forecasting, and project cost controls.Optimize inventory valuation & project accounting.Leadership & Stakeholder Management :
Lead, mentor & develop accounting teams across sites.Collaborate with Projects, Operations, Procurement, HR & top leadership.Drive a culture of performance, transparency & accountability.ERP, Systems & Process Excellence :
Drive automation and ERP / SAP efficiency.Ensure strong system controls, data accuracy & process standardization.Implement digital dashboards for real-time financial insights.Qualifications & Experience :
Chartered Accountant mandatory25-30 years of experience in Accounts, Finance, ControllershipStrong exposure to Oil & Gas / LNG / Petrochemical / Refinery / EPC / Power / Metals & Mining / FertilizerExpertise in IFRS / GAAP, Taxation, Audit & ERP (SAP / Oracle)Exceptional leadership, stakeholder management & communication skillsKey Attributes :
