Job Description
CNC Programmer (PowerMill Specialist) - 4, 5, & 7 Axis Machining & Statue Programming
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled CNC Programmer proficient in Autodesk PowerMill, Mastercam, and SolidWorks to develop complex programs for our advanced 4-axis, 5-axis, and 7-axis Vertical and Horizontal Machining Centers. A mandatory requirement for this role is demonstrated experience in creating programs for machining statues, sculptures, or highly complex 3D artistic / organic forms where surface finish and aesthetic flow are critical.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of multi-axis machining principles, G-code / M-code programming, and optimization techniques for efficient, high-precision manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Development : Create, optimize, and simulate complex toolpaths and CNC programs using both Autodesk PowerMill and Mastercam for 4-axis, 5-axis, and 7-axis CNC vertical and horizontal milling machines.
- Artistic Form Programming : Specialize in developing highly efficient and clean toolpaths for statues, complex molds, or artistic surface models, focusing on maintaining surface integrity and flow while minimizing manual finishing.
- CAD Modeling : Utilize SolidWorks for reviewing, modifying, and creating CAD models, as well as designing necessary workholding and fixtures for complex, non-prismatic parts.
- Code Generation & Editing : Generate, post-process, and meticulously edit G-code and M-code programs, ensuring compatibility and optimal performance on various machine control systems (e.g., Fanuc, Siemens, Heidenhain).
- Setup Documentation : Prepare detailed setup sheets, tooling lists, and operational instructions for machine operators, often including detailed orientation steps for multi-sided statue machining.
- Tooling and Strategy : Select appropriate cutting tools (including ball nose and specialized engraving tools), holders, and machining strategies to maximize material removal rates, maintain part quality, and achieve the desired surface finish.
- Simulation & Verification : Utilize CAM simulation tools and external verification software to confirm program logic, collision avoidance, and material removal accuracy prior to physical machining.
- Quality Assurance : Ensure all programs adhere to engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards, with a strong focus on aesthetic fidelity for artistic pieces.
Required Qualifications
Experience : Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a CNC Programmer, with a significant focus on multi-axis (4, 5, or 7-axis) programming.Specialized Experience (Mandatory) : Proven knowledge and experience in creating programs for statues, sculptures, highly contoured dies, or complex organic shapes, demonstrating mastery of advanced finishing toolpaths and step-over / step-down optimization.Software Expertise (Mandatory) :Expert proficiency in Autodesk PowerMill for complex multi-axis toolpath generation.
Strong proficiency in Mastercam (especially Mill / Multi-axis and Surface / Flowline / Sculptingtoolpaths).
Proficiency in SolidWorks for part modeling, design modification, and fixture development.
Technical Knowledge : Comprehensive knowledge of G-code and M-code programming for various CNC controls.Multi-Axis Proficiency : Proven ability to program and manage complex rotational and articulated motion on 4, 5, and especially 7-axis vertical and horizontal machining centers.Blueprint Reading : Exceptional ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) specifications, and CAD models (often meshed or STL files for artistic work).Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the artistic fabrication, prototyping, or mold & die industries.Familiarity with 3D scanning or digitizing processes and how the resulting mesh data is prepared for CAM programming.A relevant Technical Degree or Vocational Certification in Machining Technology, Tool & Die Making, or Mechanical Engineering.Skills Required
Solidworks, G-Code, Mastercam
