Your Role
About the Role
Lead the naval architectural aspects of ship-level and fleet-level digital twin initiatives by defining physical-model requirements, validating hydrodynamic and structural models, and ensuring the digital twin accurately represents vessel performance across design, operation, and maintenance phases.
Key responsibilities
- Model requirements and scope : Define the naval-architecture scope for digital twins (hull form, hydrostatics, resistance & powering, seakeeping, maneuvering, structural load cases, trim & stability, intact / damage stability).
- Data & telemetry specification : Specify required measured signals, sensor placement, sampling rates, metadata semantics, and accuracy / tolerance for telemetry feeding physics and ML models.
- Model validation and calibration : Validate, calibrate and benchmark CFD, seakeeping, resistance, and structural finite-element models against sea trials, towing tank data, operational logs and surveys.
- Performance analytics : Define KPIs and algorithms for fuel consumption, hull fouling impact, powering curves, speed-powering uncertainty, and trim / ballast optimization.
- Integration with engineering teams : Translate naval-architecture results into data and software requirements for data engineers, modelers, and dev teams; review model assumptions and unit conventions.
- Acceptance testing and QA : Create acceptance tests, verification procedures and fidelity thresholds for physics-based modules; own sign-off criteria for naval-architecture components.
- Failure-mode & scenario catalog : Develop structural and operational scenario catalogs (fatigue, slamming, grounding, icing, flooding) with failure-mode signatures for simulation and anomaly detection.
- Operational support : Support commissioning and sea trials, interpret twin outputs for technical superintendents and crew, and advise on recommended operational interventions.
- Regulatory & class liaison : Ensure model scope and outputs respect relevant classification society guidance, statutory stability requirements and survey constraints.
- Knowledge transfer : Prepare technical documentation, run workshops for ship staff and shore teams, and produce training materials that translate naval-architecture concepts into operational actions.
