We are seeking a dedicated Male Team Leader to support and mentor the male Raypirri Rom Community Workers, ensuring culturally appropriate practices in early intervention and prevention activities that prioritise the wellbeing of individuals, families, and children. This role involves supervising daily operations, promoting training and development, collaborating with Elders and internal teams, and coordinating community-based initiatives such as wellbeing camps and cultural activities. The Team Leader will also oversee compliance with workplace policies, maintain accurate reporting, and represent Miwatj Health at local network meetings, contributing to the delivery of culturally safe services across the Gove Peninsula.

Miwatj Health is an independent Aboriginal Community-Controlled Health Service. Established in 1992, we’re committed to securing quality health care services across the East Arnhem and enabling Yolŋu powered community health and wellbeing. Miwatj provides culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care to over 6,000 remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents across 3 East Arnhem wards. With a Head Office in Nhulunbuy, Miwatj also manages a Corporate Office in Darwin, 7 fixed clinics across the East Arnhem region, and dedicated outreach teams who travel to 3 additional locations.
Essential Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal Community Control and self-determination, as well as the challenges faced by Yolngu people in remote communities. A Certificate II in Community Services (or equivalent experience), a current NT Ochre Card, and the ability to maintain records and write clear reports are essential. Excellent cross-cultural communication skills, reliability, honesty, cultural awareness, and motivation are also key to success in this role. Desirable attributes include the ability to speak a local Aboriginal language, knowledge of traditional kinship systems, a Senior First Aid Certificate, and an understanding of the social determinants of health. to travel regularly to remote communities, including overnight stays as required.
