Job Summary
The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for ensuring smooth, reliable, and safe operation of all plant equipment. The role involves preventive and corrective maintenance , and associated utilities. The engineer will work closely with production, quality, and safety teams to deliver high equipment uptime and comply with FMCG industry standards. He is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing engineering projects from concept to completion. This role involves technical design review, vendor coordination, cost control, site supervision, and ensuring that all project deliverables meet quality, safety, and schedule requirements.
Reports To : Engineering Manager / Director
Key Responsibilities
1. Equipment Maintenance & Operations
- Perform preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance for :
- Dryers (Spray Dryer)
- Centrifuges
- Vibro Shifters / Sifters
- HVAC / AHU plant
- Pumps (High Pressure upto200 kg / cm2)
- Utilities (Chilling plant, Boiler, HAG, Water Treatment Plant)
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation issues to minimize downtime.
- Ensure optimal performance, alignment, lubrication, and calibration of equipment.
- Strong knowledge of project management tools and MS Office (MS Project / Primavera preferred).
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (ASME, ASTM, IS, API, etc.).
- Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
2. Project Planning & Execution
Assist in developing project scope, technical specifications, budgets, and timelines.Prepare and review engineering drawings, layouts, P&IDs, and design documents.Coordinate with cross-functional teams (production, maintenance, QA / QC, procurement, etc.) to ensure project progress.3. Procurement & Vendor Coordination
Prepare technical bid evaluations and assist in vendor selection.Monitor fabrication, inspection, and FAT (Factory Acceptance Tests).Coordinate logistics, material delivery, and installation schedules.4. Plant Reliability & Optimisation
Monitor equipment health and implement reliability improvement initiatives.Optimize maintenance schedules to reduce unplanned stoppages.Maintain spares inventory and ensure availability of critical spare parts.5. Safety, Compliance & Documentation
Ensure all maintenance activities follow FMCG safety standards, GMP, HACCP, and statutory regulations.Prepare and maintain maintenance logs, checklists, SOPs, and equipment history records.Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and root cause analysis (RCA).6. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Coordinate with production, quality assurance, and utilities teams to plan maintenance without affecting output.Support installation, commissioning, and validation of new equipment.7. Site Execution & Commissioning
Supervise site installation, commissioning, and validation activities.Ensure compliance with safety and quality procedures at the site.Support troubleshooting and resolve technical issues during implementation.8. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain project documentation (drawings, test reports, inspection logs).Track project milestones, cost, and progress against the schedule.Prepare regular progress reports for management and clients.Required Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.Understanding of PLC-controlled equipment (added advantage).Knowledge of preventive maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance (PdM).Ability to read technical drawings, manuals, and P&IDs.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Good communication and team-coordination abilities.
