The Resident Mechanical Engineer will serve as the primary on-site representative at key supplier facilities . The main objective is to establish and maintain high standards of part quality , streamline manufacturing processes through Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) development , actively track and expedite deliveries , and ensure that all components are dispatched on time and meet defined engineering specifications. This role requires frequent travel and strong collaborative skills to drive continuous improvement with suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery Follow-up & Expediting :
- Serve as the crucial link between the company's production schedule and the supplier's manufacturing / logistics team.
- Visit supplier sites regularly to monitor production progress against agreed-upon timelines.
- Proactively identify and address potential delays or bottlenecks in the supplier's production and dispatch process.
- Expedite critical parts to ensure on-time delivery and maintain an uninterrupted supply chain.
Quality Assurance & Inspection (QC) :
Conduct thorough quality checks (QC) and inspections of finished or semi-finished mechanical parts before dispatch .Verify parts against engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards, using appropriate measuring tools and techniques.Document inspection results, identifying any non-conformance issues , and work with the supplier to implement immediate corrective actions.Ensure proper packaging and labeling procedures are followed to prevent damage during transit.SOP Development & Process Improvement :
Collaborate with supplier teams to develop, refine, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for critical manufacturing, quality control, and testing processes.Train supplier personnel on new SOPs and best practices to ensure consistent process adherence and quality output.Perform periodic audits of the supplier's manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with established SOPs and quality management systems.Reporting & Communication :
Provide regular, detailed status reports on supplier delivery performance, quality metrics, and on-site activities.Maintain clear and effective communication with internal teams (Purchasing, Planning, Engineering) regarding supplier capacity, issues, and delivery forecasts.Document all interactions, quality findings, and process changes accurately.Education :
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
Experience :
5-6 years of experience in manufacturing, quality control, supplier management, or a field-based engineering role, preferably in the [Switch Gear] industry.Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings , blueprints, and technical specifications (GD&T knowledge is a plus).Proficient in using standard measurement and inspection tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, CMM reports).Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (e.g., ISO 9001, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing principles).
