Role Overview
The Assistant Manager – International Freight will be responsible for driving growth, ensuring smooth execution of international air and ocean freight operations, and supporting profitability targets. The role involves building relationships with Channel Partners (CPs), Delivery Partners (DPs), vendors, and customers, while ensuring compliance, accurate documentation, and timely financial closure.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Partner Management
Identify, engage, and onboard new CPs and DPs to achieve revenue and growth targets.
Develop and maintain relationships with prospects and key accounts, including seniorlevel decision makers.
Liaise with local and WCA vendors to source competitive Air & Ocean freight rates.
Provide pricing support, quotations, and timely responses to customer and partner queries.
Track competitor activities, market rates, and share insights to strengthen business positioning.
Operations & Documentation
Manage end-to-end execution of international freight shipments (Air & Ocean).
Prepare and process Airway Bills (AWBs), Bills of Lading (BLs), invoices, and other shipping documents.
Arrange shipment pickup, delivery, and coordinate with carriers, agents, and CHA
Assist in customs clearance formalities, ensuring documentation accuracy and compliance.
Track shipments and proactively update stakeholders on status and exceptions.
Resolve operational issues (delays, claims, RTOs) quickly and effectively.
Financial & Margin Control
Monitor costs, revenue, and shipment margins to ensure profitability.
Escalate and seek approval for lowmargin shipments ( Support timely invoicing, vendor bill processing, and ensure compliance with financial SOPs.
Coordinate with the billing team to close accounts accurately and on schedule.
Reporting & Compliance
Prepare and circulate MIS reports on volumes, revenue, margins, and KPIs.
Ensure compliance with MSME and NonMSME requirements, GST norms, and trade regulations.
Support adherence to internal SOPs, audits, and certifications (IATA, ISO, AEO).
Maintain records and approvals for financial and operational transparency.
Collaboration & Process Improvement
Work closely with internal teams to improve freight processes and enhance service levels.
Support digital initiatives, using freight management systems (ERP / Intraportal / CargoWise) for accuracy and visibility.
Assist the Manager in mentoring team members and ensuring adherence to company standards.
Identify opportunities for cost savings, efficiency improvements, and customer satisfaction.
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of international air & ocean freight, customs, and documentation.
Proven ability to acquire and develop business partners (CPs, DPs, vendors).
Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
Analytical mindset with focus on margins, profitability, and reporting.
Proficiency in MS Office and freight management systems.
Problemsolving skills with ability to manage escalations and exceptions.
Qualifications & Experience
Graduate / Postgraduate in Logistics, Supply Chain, or International Business.
3–5 years of relevant experience in international freight forwarding (Air & Ocean).
Familiarity with Incoterms, IATA / IMO regulations, trade compliance, and GST requirements.
Exposure to partner / vendor networks such as WCA will be an added advantage.
