Job Title : Purchase Manager / Asst. Manager

Job Summary : The Purchase Manager is responsible for the strategic sourcing, procurement, and supply chain operations to support manufacturing and assembly processes. The role involves vendor development, price negotiation, stores and logistics management, and ensuring quality, delivery, and cost (QDC) parameters are consistently met. The position also demands strong coordination with cross-functional teams and effective use of SAP for all procurement and inventory activities.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Procurement & Vendor Management
Run MRP at fixed intervals, generate and review purchase requisitions.
Source and develop at least three vendors for each part or subassembly (India, Asia, Europe) while minimizing imports.
Identify and onboard vendors for machine, fixture elements and peripheral components.
Negotiate warranty and rework terms before finalizing vendors.
Finalize best pricing in coordination with the Head of Operations and freeze prices and vendor priority in SAP.
Maintain strong vendor relationships, ensure vendor quality, and oversee CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions).
2. Cost Control & Strategic Sourcing
Achieve target costs for raw materials and suggest vendor alternatives based on currency fluctuation and market trends.
Identify opportunities for in-house manufacturing (machined parts, control cabinets, etc.).
Stay updated on industry trends, new suppliers, and emerging technologies through regular peer interactions.
3. Technical & Commercial Knowledge
Possess in-depth knowledge of castings, machined parts, electrical components, and machine building elements.
Able to understand drawings / accuracy requirements.
Fair Knowledge of manufacturing process.
Prepare independent costing sheet for manufactured parts.
Prepare comparative statements for vendor selection based on technical and commercial evaluations.
Awareness of various machine components & their respective supplier base nationally & internally.
Coordinate with design / quality team to ensure right part is supplied / clarify supplier doubts.
Focus on maintaining a strong balance of quality, delivery, and cost across all sourcing activities.
4. SAP & Purchase Order Management
Create, track, and close purchase orders in SAP, ensuring timely material receipt and payment.
Monitor accounts payable on a weekly basis and ensure vendor payments are processed on time.
Ensure all procurement and stores-related activities are systematically recorded and managed through SAP.
5. Stores & Logistics Management
Oversee incoming material unloading, QA inspection, and material release to stock or production.
Maintain optimum stock levels and ensure safety and security of the stores.
Manage logistics cost negotiation, packing, dispatch, and contract handling with logistics vendors.
Handle rejections, warranty claims, and job work processing with proper documentation and accounting.
6. Planning & Reporting
Coordinate closely with production planning to align procurement and dispatch schedules.
Generate weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on procurement and inventory performance.
Qualifications & Skills :
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical / Production Engineering or Supply Chain Management.
8 12 years of relevant experience in machine tool or capital equipment manufacturing industry.
Proficiency in SAP (MM module preferred).
Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
Solid understanding of technical drawings, machining processes, and commercial terms.
