Role Overview
The Team Leader – Hull Structure Design is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing all structural design activities for multiple ship design projects—covering both basic and production engineering. The role involves guiding a team of structural engineers and designers, ensuring timely and quality delivery of structural drawings, 3D models, calculations, and documentation as per class and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and allocate tasks to team members across multiple ongoing projects.
- Monitor progress and ensure delivery as per agreed schedules and quality standards.
- Conduct design reviews and ensure coordination with other disciplines (Hull Outfitting, Piping, Electrical, etc.).
- Ensure designs comply with class rules, statutory regulations, and project specifications.
- Interface with classification societies (DNV, LR, IRS, ABS, NK, etc.) and shipyards for technical clarifications.
- Lead development of hull structure design from concept to production stage.
- Review and approve scantling calculations, FEM analyses, weight estimates, and structural drawings.
- Mentor and develop engineers within the team; provide technical guidance and training.
- Conduct peer reviews and ensure implementation of standard design procedures and checklists.
- Ensure effective internal checking and QA / QC before submission and coordinate with PMO and document control.
Qualifications & Skills
B.Tech / M.Tech in Naval Architecture or Structural Engineering.12–15 years of experience in hull structural design (basic and / or production) for commercial or naval vessels.Understanding of the usage of structural design software (CADMATIC Hull, AVEVA Marine, NAPA, FEM tools).Strong understanding of classification rules and shipyard practices.Proven leadership, mentoring, and multitasking skills.
