This role will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of SQL Server and Oracle database operations, with a solid focus on audit compliance, security hardening, performance optimization, and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader with a track record of managing large-scale database environments, driving automation and modernization initiatives, and ensuring compliance with internal and external audit requirements. A keen focus on providing high-level customer service to our application team partners is required.
The SDM will champion the adoption and integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies to drive operational excellence, automate routine tasks, and enhance system reliability and security. This role will lead initiatives to leverage AI for predictive analytics, intelligent monitoring, and automated incident response across enterprise Linux / Unix environments.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead planning and day-to-day operations of enterprise-wide SQL Server and Oracle database environments
- Manage a team of database engineers and administrators, providing technical direction, mentorship, and performance oversight
- Ensure high availability, reliability, and security of all database systems, including backup / recovery, disaster recovery, and performance tuning
- Drive standardization and automation across database configuration, deployment, and patching processes
- Own and execute audit and compliance readiness and artifact collection related to database systems, including SOC, SOX, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, or other relevant frameworks
- Collaborate with internal audit teams and external auditors to respond to findings and implement remediation plans
- Maintain and enhance database monitoring, alerting, and reporting tools
- Lead incident response and root cause analysis for database-related outages or security events, including being on call where necessary
- Work closely with security, networking, and application teams to ensure secure and efficient operations
- Develop documentation, operational procedures, and training materials for database operations
- Collaborate with Database Engineering teams on recommended best practices, security requirements, and efficiency improvements for day-to-day support activities

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field10+ years of experience in database administration (SQL Server and Oracle) with 5+ years in a leadership roleProven experience in managing enterprise database environments, security best practices, and disaster recovery planningExtensive experience with system audit processes and compliance frameworks (e.g., SOX, PCI-DSS, HIPAA)Deep technical expertise in SQL Server (2016 / 2019 / 2022), Oracle Database (12c / 19c), backup / recovery, performance tuning, and automation (PowerShell, PL / SQL, T-SQL)Proven solid leadership and communication qualities in fast-changing environmentsDemonstrated ability to lead complex technical projects and cross-functional teamsDemonstrated solid analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skillsPreferred Qualifications
