Job Role : SCM (Infra, Capex & Vendor Development)
Job Summary : The incumbent facilitates efficient and cost-effective procurement of Infra and services essential for shipbuilding, repair, and offshore fabrication. They oversee the sourcing process and vendor management to ensure resource availability while optimizing costs and maintaining high-quality standards. By aligning procurement strategies with the timelines and objectives of shipbuilding, refit, repair, and heavy engineering projects, they mitigate supply chain risks and contribute to timely project completion.
Job Responsibilities :
Strategic :
- Develop comprehensive supply chain strategy for Infra & Capex procurement operations.
- Design detailed procurement roadmap Vendor Development and that integrates closely with
Project Requirements.
Functional :
Identify and qualify potential vendors for materials, components, equipment, and servicesrequired in shipbuilding and refit projects.
Conduct comprehensive assessments of vendors based on quality, cost, delivery capability,compliance with standards, and reliability.
Ensure purchase orders (POs) for Capex & Infra Materials are processed accurately, trackable,& compliant with organizational requirements.
Ensure that all procurement aligns precisely with the Bill of Materials (BOM), avoiding anyproject delays caused by material shortages or unavailability.
Develop and maintain a robust database of approved vendors and categorize them based ontheir strengths, capacities, and past performance.
Monitor and evaluate vendor performance regularly, ensuring they meet quality standards,delivery timelines, and cost parameters.
Identify potential supply chain risks and develop contingency plans to address issues relatedto vendor reliability, material shortages, or delivery delays.
Negotiate favorable terms, pricing, and contracts with vendors to secure cost-effectiveprocurement without compromising on quality or timelines.
Conduct periodic audits of vendor facilities and processes to ensure compliance with quality,safety, and environmental standards.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, market fluctuations, and regulatorychanges that may impact vendor performance or availability of materials.
Monitor and evaluate supplier performance based on KPIs such as on-time delivery, qualitycompliance, & responsiveness.
Establish multiple sources for critical components to reduce reliance on single supplier.Ensure regulatory compliance in all quality control activities, aligning with ISO 9001 : 2015 forquality management, ISO 45001 : 2018 for occupational health and safety, ISO 14001 : 2015 for
environmental protection, and industry-specific product certification standards for shipbuilding /
Ship repair.
Financial :
Negotiate contracts to secure best terms for pricing, lead times, payment schedules, & serviceagreements.
Lead cost reduction initiatives by identifying alternative materials and vendors for Infra &Capex Items ,without compromising quality and functionality.
People and Behavior :
Coordinate with engineering & production teams to accurately anticipate needs for long-lead-time Infra & Capex Items
Lead yard vendor development teams.Set performance KPIs, monitor progress & drive corrective actions when necessary.Develop improvement plans for underperforming vendors and identify alternative supplierswherever necessary
Preferred Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Mech / Electrical Engineering , Supply Chain Management, BusinessAdministration, or a related field is a must
MBA in Procurement Planning and Supply Chain Management is beneficialProfessional certifications in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or Contract Managementare beneficial.
Preferred Experience :
18+ years of experience in procurement or supply chain management, in Ship Building / Ship Repair, with a focus on equipment & Infra procurement within shipbuilding, heavy engineering, or a similar industry.Proven experience in Imports, LC payment terms, Vendor Development, contract management, and managing a team of procurement professionals.
