Qualification & Skills
Degree level or equivalent in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering preferred, with a minimum of 4 to 8 years of experience in Design of Composite and / or metallic components.
Essential skills :
- Excellent knowledge of Aerospace Primary and Secondary structures - Wings, Fuselage, Empennage
- The Design Engineer will develop, integrate and implement technical solutions for some of our high-profile programmes of work.
- Ensure designs are compliant with all relevant customer, regulatory, and airworthiness requirements and internal standards within the programme, schedule, and manufacturing constraints.
- Have a shared responsibility in the design of structural aircraft and helicopter components, identifying technical problems and creating technical solutions.
- Work with both metal and composite structures and different assembly techniques.
- Use a variety of methods and tools, for example CAD (experience using CATIA V5 and preferably NX / 3DX) and PLM (Windchill, 3DX) software.
- Experience in designing composite structures is a preferred, including CAD tools like CPD and / or FiberSim.
Key Responsibilities :
Wing, Empennage Fuselage Aero structures detailed design & development and support production requirements where necessary.The design engineer will be part of a multidisciplinary team together with analysis engineers, manufacturing engineers, cost engineers and tooling engineers.Working in all phases of a programme, starting with the conceptual phase, the full-scale phase in which the detailed design is translated into product drawings / models, up to the product maturation phase assisting with problems during manufacturing and proposing changes to the detailed design in order to contribute to weight and cost savings.Work on the integration of all requirements and input from other engineering disciplines into the conceptual and detailed design, such that the product definition can be made and a cost-efficient and producible design is achieved.Propose design solutions, based on the correct balance of cost, quality, manufacturability, serviceability and performance.Prepare drawings and other engineering data required for the manufacturing of the product and data submittal to the customer.To communicate effectively with co-worker, customer and suppliersConfiguration services, BOM creation using codified components.Modelling, simulation and prototyping services knowledgeDesign or amendment of Components, Products to a specification.Design for cost / manufacture services.Produce layout drawings and or detailed and accurate drawingsPropose Delivery and installation strategies, installation designs (red / green drawings), mod packs for installing hardware products onto platforms.Perform basic design changes (Notes, standard parts in models etc.) in metallic detail parts and assemblies within CATIA.Update the Bill of Materials (BOM) and write the Engineering Change Note (ECN)Exposure and knowledge of aero structures MRB / concessions on metallic & composite parts will be an advantageSkills Required
