Job Description Summary

The Secondary Engineering Manager – Electrical Component will play a key role in supporting the sales and business development by providing technical expertise in the design of electrification solutions for the EHV / HV Substations. This individual will be responsible for system design, material selection, quantity estimation, various engineering activities associated for a project and customer technical consultations. The candidate will also ensure that the proposed solutions meet customer needs while adhering to industry standards, safety regulations, quality requirements and cost-efficiency objectives.

The candidate shall execute with association of workgroups, where applicable, in order to meet assigned objectives. In this role, the candidate will work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply concepts to issues of moderate complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.

This role involves in leading the secondary engineering activities (Control & Protection, Substation Automation Systems, Interface Engineering, Telecom Requirements & LV Auxiliary Systems for EHV / HV Electrical Substations (AIS / GIS / HVDC / FACTS / STATCOM / Onshore / Offshore / Renewable / etc.,)

The candidate ensures leadership, skills development and motivation of the teams, manages engineering workload plan of the region, allocates keys resources on the projects, defines with Operations make or buy strategy for engineering activities. Candidate aligns processes and tools spanning ITO and OTR phases with Project Engineering function.

The candidate will work with GSI Global Engineering Centre (GSI GEC) to coordinate with the GSI Regions / Business Lines / as per Project requirement.

Roles and Responsibilities

• The role demonstrates leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. In this role you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and long-term business goals.
• Provide technical leadership and interface with GSI Regions / GE Vernova Business Lines to estimate the optimized manhour cost for the engineering activities / other required activities for the execution of the project / Tender.
• Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers.
• Document and communicate results of technical data generated.
• Participate on teams assigned to address specific organizational initiatives.
• Share engineering information and promote open dialogue.
• Prepare invention disclosures to protect the technology that provides a competitive advantage to the business.
• Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and / or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
• Design and prepare scheme drawings as per project requirement in anyone of E-CAD Tool (Ex. Engineering Base software / E-Plan / AutoCAD Electrical / equivalent) for up to 400 / 765kV Substations.
• Design / review the Substation automation system based on IEC61850-8-1(Station Bus) & IEC 61850-9-2(Process Bus) – Database Preparation in the automation / RTU software
• Review / consolidate the IO Mapping with respect to the scheme drawings / troubleshoot of database issues in SAS system / RTU based system.
• Review BOQ and Architecture drawings of PLCC / FOTE engineering and need to interface between CRP & SAS with Telecom Equipment.
• Review equipment drawings of major Substation Equipment for AIS / GIS like Circuit breakers, Isolators, Earth switches, CSD, PDM, Transformers / Reactors & associated Conditional Monitoring Devices etc., and Interface with Control & Protection / Substation Automation System as per Project Requirement.
• Perform CT and VT and its sizing calculations.
• Able to work with different make IEDs, Numerical protection relays and BCUs.
• Perform / review the protection relay application / setting calculations and coordination including tripping analysis.
• Design / Review the control / Power cable engineering in substations.
• Design the LV / LT auxiliary systems for Electrical Substations and interface with the SAS / SCADA.
