The Network Engineer (Service Provider) is a proactive, detail-driven technical role requiring a Bachelor's degree and strong hands-on experience in high-performance networking, with a focus on service provider environments.
This is an Offshore Contract (4+ Contract) role based on-site (3-5 days a week) in Whitefield, Bengaluru, Karnataka, responsible for supporting the design, rigorous testing, and monitoring of large-scale telecom networks.
The incumbent will be instrumental in hands-on configuration, troubleshooting of carrier-grade routers and switches, and driving network automation efforts.
Job Summary :
We are seeking a proactive and detail-driven Network Engineer to join the service provider team supporting one of our largest Telecom clients. The ideal candidate will possess strong fundamentals in Layer 2 / 3 protocols, expertise in IS-IS, BGP, and MPLS, and hands-on experience with advanced testing tools and modern network management protocols like NETCONF and gNMI. This role requires excellent troubleshooting, scripting, and documentation skills to ensure the reliability and performance of critical network infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables :
- Network Configuration & Troubleshooting : Perform hands-on configuration and troubleshooting of service provider-grade routers and switches, with a primary focus on core routing protocols such as IS-IS, BGP, Segment Routing, and MPLS.
- Advanced Protocol Implementation : Implement and manage advanced features including VPN services (L2 / L3 VPNs), QoS (Quality of Service) policies, and performance monitoring protocols such as BFD (Bidirectional Forwarding Detection) and TWAMP (Two-Way Active Measurement Protocol).
- Testing and Validation : Conduct rigorous performance and reliability testing of network devices and services using specialized testing tools such as Ixia, Spirent, or similar industry-standard equipment.
- Diagnostics and Analysis : Capture and interpret network logs and packet captures using tools like Wireshark, tcpdump, or vendor-specific logging utilities to diagnose and resolve complex network issues.
- Automation and Orchestration : Contribute to automation efforts through basic scripting (primarily Python) and work with CLI-based tools and configuration templates for streamlined deployments.
- Modern Management Protocols : Work with NETCONF, YANG models, gNMI, and streaming telemetry (e.g., gRPC) for automated network configuration, state retrieval, and performance monitoring.
- Security Implementation : Implement and enforce essential network security measures, including ACLs (Access Control Lists) and protocol authentication (e.g., BGP / IS-IS authentication).
- Documentation and Collaboration : Maintain structured documentation of test cases, network configurations, and results. Collaborate across software, QA, and operations teams to align on design and deployment strategies.
Required Skills & Experience (Mandatory) :
Education : Bachelors degree in computer science or related field.Networking Fundamentals : Strong fundamentals on Layer 2 / 3 networking concepts and protocols.Core Routing : Hands-on experience in IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, and traffic engineering.Modern Management : Proficiency in NETCONF, YANG models, and streaming telemetry (e.g., gRPC, gNMI).Testing Tools : Experience with network testing tools such as Ixia, Spirent, or similar.Troubleshooting Tools : Ability to capture and interpret logs using tools like Wireshark, tcpdump, or vendor-specific logging utilities.Scripting : Basic scripting knowledge (Python).Documentation : Excellent documentation skills.Preferred Skills & Experience (Nice to Have) :
