The role

The Project Manager will lead the Finance Transformation Project, a key initiative to modernise Yarra Valley Water’s financial management systems. This role is responsible for ensuring the project delivers outcomes aligned with business goals, system capabilities, and compliance requirements. Key responsibilities include coordinating multiple workstreams, engaging stakeholders, managing risks and dependencies, and driving the successful transition from legacy systems to modern, cloud-based platforms - enhancing process efficiency, data quality, and decision-making.

Your key responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of medium to large-scale projects, ensuring timely completion, budget adherence, and alignment with stakeholder expectations and business cases.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, costs, and benefits, applying sound judgement to balance trade-offs and maintain delivery quality.
  • Lead cross-functional teams, vendors management, and service providers, including procurement, contract management, and vendor negotiations to ensure value for money and compliance.
  • Manage project financials (budgets, forecasts, actuals) and provide timely, accurate reports to sponsors, executives, steering committees, and PMO.
  • Own project governance activities, including steering committee meetings, reporting, and adherence to the Enterprise Delivery Framework.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks, issues, and dependencies, ensuring proactive escalation and resolution.
  • Drive stakeholder engagement and communication across business, IT, and executive levels to maintain alignment and support timely decision-making.
  • Manage change control processes, documenting and approving scope, cost, or schedule adjustments.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation and support audits to ensure compliance with frameworks and standards.
  • Oversee end-to-end integration and data migration strategy across enterprise systems (HR, Payroll, Billing, Asset Management), ensuring organisation change readiness, risk management, and seamless business adoption.
  • Manage the design and implementation of finance modules such as General Ledger, Accounts Payable / Receivable, Asset Accounting, Procurement, and Budgeting.
  • What we’re looking for

  • Mandatory : Demonstrated experience as a Project Manager in Finance or ERP implementation projects.
  • Proven experience managing both infrastructure and application projects.
  • Strong skills in vendor management and contract negotiation.
  • Expertise in Waterfall and Agile project management methodologies.
  • Familiarity with the ITIL framework and its application in IT service management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, with strong presentation skills.
  • Sharp analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities, including lateral thinking.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage competing priorities and navigate complex challenges.
  • Experience in public sector, utilities, or regulated environments is desirable.
  • A current Project Management certification or relevant tertiary qualification in IT or related business discipline
