Role Overview
The Associate Director – Anesthesia Coding will lead and manage the anesthesia coding vertical, ensuring accuracy, compliance, operational efficiency, and strong client relationships. This leader will be responsible for driving performance, mentoring managers & teams, and supporting overall business growth for the anesthesia domain.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Provide end-to-end leadership for the Anesthesia Coding division.
- Create and execute strategies to improve quality, productivity, and coding accuracy.
- Work closely with senior leadership to support business expansion and client deliverables.
Operational Management
Oversee daily operations across all anesthesia coding teams (coders, SMEs, QA, Team Leads, Managers).Implement best practices, coding standards, and compliance guidelines (CPT, ICD-10, ASA, payer-specific).Monitor SLA adherence, turnaround time (TAT), and coding quality metrics.Manage team workflows and ensure effective resource allocation.People & Performance Management
Lead, mentor, and develop teams of senior coders, TLs, and managers.Conduct performance reviews, identify skill gaps, and implement training plans.Drive a culture of accountability, compliance, and continuous improvement.Client Relationship Management
Act as senior escalation point for client communication and issue resolution.Work with clients to understand evolving guidelines and project requirements.Support onboarding of new client transitions in the anesthesia domain.Compliance & Quality
Ensure all anesthesia coding is compliant with CMS, AMA, payer guidelines, and internal QA standards.Review audit findings and implement corrective action plans.Maintain up-to-date expertise in anesthesia CPT codes, modifiers, time-based billing rules, and pain management procedures.Required Skills & Experience
10–15+ years of medical coding experience with strong anesthesia domain expertise.Minimum 5 years in a leadership role managing large teams (TLs, Managers, QA).Strong understanding of Anesthesia CPT codes, ASA guidelines, time units, QS / QX / QK modifiers, Pain Management procedures, etc.Proven track record of improving quality and operational KPIs.Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills.Why Join Us
