Job Description : Maintenance Leader — Polymer Compounding Industry, Chennai
The Maintenance Leader will be responsible for heading the maintenance department at our Chennai Polymer Compounding Plant, ensuring all machinery and equipment operate optimally, reliably, and safely. This position requires a seasoned Mechanical or Electrical Engineer with a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience and at least 8 years in a supervisory capacity, preferably within the polymer compounding industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor the maintenance team, fostering a culture of safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.
- Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime and minimize production disruptions.
- Optimize plant utilities, ETP, and facility infrastructure through regular checks and improvements.
- Ensure full compliance with statutory, environmental, and safety guidelines, including 5S, Lean, and Six Sigma initiatives.
- Oversee new equipment selection, installation, performance upgrades, and disposal of obsolete machinery.
- Manage capital improvement and process enhancement projects, driving operational efficiency and cost-saving initiatives.
- Monitor maintenance KPIs, analyze downtime and failures, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for maintenance, facility management, and statutory compliance.
- Train and develop team members, conduct technical briefings, and supervise on-job skill enhancement.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation, records, and compliance logs as per regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering.Minimum 12 years total experience, with at least 8 years in maintenance department supervision.Proven record heading maintenance in the polymer compounding industry.Strong communication skills;fluent in English (spoken and written).
Deep understanding of compounding technology, equipment performance, machine shop operations, metal fabrication, and mechanical assemblyProficiency in plant utility systems, ETP, and facility management.Demonstrated exposure to reliability engineering, project management, and capital improvement projects.Experience with Lean, Six Sigma principles, and safety practices such as 5S.Strong compliance and documentation orientation.Preferred Skills & Attributes
