AIR6500 is the RAAF’s $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that builds on the capabilities offered by Next Generation sensor and command and control systems. AIR6500 will create a fully networked ‘system of systems’ that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace.
The Support System Design Engineering Project Manager (EPM) is responsible for the technical management of the Operational Continuity Integrated Product Team (IPT) and for leading it through all phases of the product lifecycle from development and production to delivery and sustainment.
The EPM is accountable for overall program performance, ensuring the team meets its technical, cost, schedule, and quality objectives, while effectively managing risks and opportunities. Acting as the primary point of communication for the IPT, the EPM coordinates with functional areas, allocates tasks, and provides performance feedback to support successful program execution.
Position can be based in Adelaide SA or Williamtown NSW

Your responsibilities will include :
Define and document the team’s operating approach, including roles, responsibilities, communication protocols, and decision-making processes.
Plan, schedule, and facilitate regular team meetings to drive effective communication, collaboration, and progress toward program objectives.
Clearly assign and communicate tasks and responsibilities to team members, ensuring clarity of expectations and accountability.
Develop and maintain a detailed project schedule outlining key milestones, deadlines, and deliverables to ensure alignment with program requirements.
Collaborate with functional areas — including engineering, manufacturing, and logistics — to secure the necessary resources and expertise for successful execution.
Prepare and deliver regular status reports and updates to stakeholders, including program managers, customers, and senior leadership, ensuring transparency of progress, risks, and issues.
Proactively identify, manage, and mitigate risks and issues that may affect team performance or program outcomes.
Drive continuous improvement by identifying and implementing process enhancements that improve team efficiency and productivity.
Monitor, manage, and report on team performance metrics, tracking progress against defined goals and objectives.
About you :
Extensive experience in communicating, coordinating, prioritising, and monitoring work progress to achieve defined goals.
Proven success in leading and managing multi-disciplinary product teams within complex project environments.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve impediments, manage conflicts, and prioritise competing outcomes.
Highly advanced knowledge of Agile frameworks, processes, and tools.
Demonstrated experience in assessing capability needs, developing plans, and implementing skill improvement initiatives.
Experience in the definition, development, and delivery of Support Systems for Commonwealth programs.
Desirable
Experience in Systems Engineering practices and methodologies.
Background in Complex Systems Integration and Test.
Understanding of Model-Based Engineering (MBE) processes.
SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) training or certification.
Experience in Control Account Management (CAM).
