Job description

Payroll Operations & Compliance :

  • Review and validate payroll processing activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal policies and legal requirements.
  • Analyze and reconcile payroll reports such as CTC Reconciliation, Variance Analysis, and ensure alignment with financial records.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable payroll legislation and regulations including PF, ESI, Gratuity, Income Tax, etc.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payroll execution in line with service level agreements and compliance standards.

Team Leadership & Management :

  • Lead and mentor a team of payroll professionals, managing work planning, task allocation, scheduling, and performance reviews.
  • Motivate and guide the team to maintain high morale, productivity, and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Oversee routine activities and provide guidance on complex payroll scenarios.
  • Foster a collaborative and accountable team environment.
  • Client Engagement & Communication :

  • Independently manage communication with domestic and international clients on payroll matters.
  • Address client queries, clarify deliverables, and ensure service quality and satisfaction.
  • Understand client-specific requirements and customize payroll processes accordingly.
  • Process Optimization & Reporting :

  • Identify opportunities for improving payroll processes, controls, and automation to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on key payroll metrics to track process health and compliance (e.g., error rates, processing timelines, audit results).
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of payroll procedures, workflows, and compliance checklists.
  • Key Skills & Competencies :

  • Proven expertise in end-to-end payroll processing and compliance management.
  • Strong analytical and Excel skills for generating payroll reports and reconciliations (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, data validations, etc.).
  • Proficient in MS Office, especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong team leadership and people management capabilities.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deliverables, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations, taxation, and statutory obligations in India (exposure to international payroll is a plus).
  • Experience with client communication, escalations, and expectation management.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Commerce, Finance, HR, or a related field.
  • Certification in Payroll Management or related compliance programs is a plus.
  • Experience in shared services, outsourcing, or global payroll is desirable.
