Position: Assistant Manager Purchase
Industry: Machine Manufacturing / Engineering
The Assistant Manager Purchase is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring castings, raw materials, and mechanical components required for machine manufacturing. The role ensures cost-effective procurement, timely availability of materials, and compliance with engineering and quality standards, while effectively using SAP/ERP systems.
Key & Vendor Management:- Plan and execute procurement of castings (CI, SG Iron, steel), raw materials (steel, alloys), and mechanical components as per production requirements.
- Identify, evaluate, develop, and maintain approved vendors to ensure quality, cost, and delivery compliance.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and long-term contracts to achieve cost optimization.
- Monitor vendor performance on quality, delivery, cost, and service parameters.
SAP / ERP & Documentation:- Create and manage Purchase Requisitions (PRs), Purchase Orders (POs), and Goods Receipt Notes (GRNs) in SAP/ERP.
- Ensure accurate maintenance of material master, vendor master, and procurement records.
- Track order status, follow up for timely deliveries, and resolve discrepancies in SAP/ERP.
Engineering & Process Coordination:- Work closely with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to understand technical specifications, drawings, and BOM requirements.
- Ensure procured materials comply with engineering drawings, standards, and process requirements.
- Support new product development (NPD) and engineering changes by arranging samples, trials, and approvals.
Inventory & Cost Control:- Ensure optimal inventory levels by coordinating with planning and stores to avoid shortages or excess stock.
- Analyze consumption trends and support cost reduction and value engineering initiatives.
- Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and monthly MIS related to procurement.
Quality & Compliance:- Ensure materials comply with quality standards, inspection requirements, and certifications.
- Support audits (internal, external, supplier audits) and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
Key Skills & Competencies:- Strong knowledge of casting materials, raw materials, and mechanical components
- Hands-on experience with SAP/ERP procurement modules
- Understanding of engineering drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing processes
- Negotiation, vendor development, and cost control skills
- Analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to coordinate cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities
Educational Qualification:MBA /B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering to 8+ years of relevant experience in purchase/procurement within a machine manufacturing or engineering company
