About the Role :

This Legal Counsel position offers a valuable opportunity for a junior lawyer to join Woodside’s legal team at a dynamic time. Supporting the Marketing, Trading & Shipping division, you will provide legal guidance to our Global Trading and Optimisation team based in Singapore.

Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Provide commercial-focussed pragmatic legal advice and strategic counsel to the Singapore office-based global marketing, trading and shipping teams.
  • Provide internal legal support to global LNG, Liquids (Crude, LPG, etc) and Ammonia trading activities on a range of topics, including seaborne energy commodity marketing, trading and optimisations through Asia-Pac as well as for deliveries into Europe.
  • Advise and support on shipping related legal matters.
  • Manage external legal support on specialist matters.
  • Identify and manage risks and regulatory compliance matters across a range of the company’s Singapore-based marketing, trading and shipping activities.
  • Provide general corporate commercial legal advice.
  • Support subsidiary boards’ engagement and company management.
  • Provide structured and ad-hoc legal training.

Skills & Experience :

  • You must be admitted as a lawyer to practise in Singapore. Please clearly state in your application the month / year in which you were admitted.  Experience with England & Wales jurisdiction highly desirable.
  • Appropriately qualified with relevant tertiary qualifications (law degree) with 2+ years as a lawyer with meaningful professional experience in any of commodity shipping, marketing or trading; energy; oil & gas; or corporate or commercial legal practice.
  • Experience in advising on and negotiating complex contractual arrangements.
  • International commodity vessel chartering / procurement / litigation or marketing / trading awareness or experience is highly desirable.
  • Candidates are not required to have experience in all these areas.
  • Team player with excellent English communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation ability.
  • Negotiation and influencing skills, including confident interaction with senior management-level stakeholders.
  • Ability to build and foster positive relationships and networks.
