Position: Data Scientist

Location: Pune

Type of Employment: Full-time

Purpose of the Position: The Data Scientist will be responsible for designing and implementing data-driven solutions to solve business problems. This role involves working with large datasets, building predictive models, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver actionable insights. The position is ideal for someone with strong analytical skills and hands-on experience in data science tools and techniques.

Key Result Areas and Activities:

Data Analysis & Model Development:

- Develop and validate machine learning models for classification, regression, and forecasting under guidance from senior team members.

- Apply standard modeling techniques using Python and common data science libraries.

- Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies.

Data Preparation & Feature Engineering:

- Clean, transform, and prepare datasets for analysis and modeling.

- Create and refine features to improve model performance using established techniques.

- Work with SQL and data pipelines to source relevant data.

Model Evaluation & Reporting:

- Evaluate model performance using appropriate metrics.

- Document assumptions, methodology, and results.

- Support the preparation of dashboards, reports, and presentations to communicate insights.

Collaboration & Execution:

- Work closely with senior data scientists, data engineers, and business stakeholders to support solution delivery.

- Understand business requirements and translate them into analytical tasks.

- Follow established development and documentation standards.

Deployment Support:

- Assist engineering or MLOps teams during model deployment.

- Support model monitoring activities under guidance (e.g., basic performance tracking).

Essential Skills:

- Strong proficiency in Python and data science libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn.

- Good understanding of machine learning fundamentals and common algorithms.

- Experience with data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation.

- Working knowledge of SQL for data querying.

- Basic exposure to cloud platforms (AWS / Azure / GCP).

- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.

- Basic understanding of working with large datasets; exposure to Spark/PySpark is a plus.

Desirable Skills:

- Exposure to deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow or PyTorch).

- Basic understanding of MLOps concepts and model deployment workflows.

- Familiarity with experiment tracking tools (MLflow or similar) introductory level.

- Exposure to business domains such as retail, supply chain, finance, or operations.

- Awareness of emerging analytics areas such as GenAI / LLMs (conceptual or limited 7-9 years of experience in data science, machine learning, or analytics roles.

- Bachelors degree in computer science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field. Masters degree is a Curiosity and eagerness to learn new technologies.

- Strong communication and collaboration skills.

- Ability to work independently and in teams.

- Adaptability in fast-paced environments.
