Key Responsibilities
Test Strategy & Planning
• Own and author the end-to-end Test Strategy for the Puerto Rico Workday deployment - covering scope, approach, entry/exit criteria, testing phases, tools, and risk-based prioritization
• Develop the Master Test Plan integrating all phases: Prototype, System Integration, End-to-End, Parallel Payroll, Regression, User Readiness, and Stabilization
• Build workstream-level test execution plans with daily schedules, tester assignments, upstream/downstream dependencies, and cross-functional accountability mapping
• Establish defect management process - severity taxonomy, triage cadence, resolution SLAs, and escalation path to Product and Engineering leads
Test Script & Scenario Development
• Translate business requirements, configuration workbooks, and Invisors-provided baseline narratives into detailed, executable test scripts covering all in-scope HCM, Payroll, and integration scenarios
• Write hire-to-retire test scripts spanning: Requisition → Offer → Onboarding → Job Change → Compensation → Time Off → Payroll → Termination — with Puerto Rico-specific steps and legal requirements embedded
• Develop payroll-specific test scenarios covering Puerto Rico earnings, deductions, Christmas Bonus, overtime rules, tax withholding, and pay cycle reconciliation against legacy system outputs
• Build integration test scripts validating all inbound/outbound file transfers between Workday, Legion, benefits vendors, and payroll tax providers — including field-level mapping verification
• Maintain a requirements-to-test traceability matrix ensuring every signed-off configuration decision maps to at least one test scenario
UAT Orchestration & Cross-Functional Accountability
• Lead and orchestrate all UAT cycles — coordinate testers across HR, Payroll, Store Operations, and Engineering; own daily check-in meetings, issue escalation, and completion tracking
• Facilitate User Readiness Sessions for business users: design simulations, manage logistics, capture feedback, and drive resolution before go-live sign-off
• Hold all workstream leads accountable to testing timelines, defect resolution, and re-test completion - escalate blockers proactively to Product and Project Management
• Drive parallel payroll testing execution: two consecutive PR pay cycles, Workday vs. legacy reconciliation, tolerance analysis, and formal sign-off documentation
• Manage testing engagement with third-party vendors (benefits, tax, time tracking) - confirm vendor systems are ready before Test stage begins; coordinate file testing and validate end-to-end data flows
Defect Management & Quality Reporting
• Log, triage, and track all defects through resolution using the agreed test management tool (Smartsheet/JIRA/qTest); ensure clear reproduction steps, severity, and root cause for every issue
• Produce weekly QA status reports for the Product team and project steering committee — scenario completion %, open defects by severity and workstream, blockers, and testing risk assessment
• Maintain real-time testing dashboards accessible to all stakeholders; provide proactive risk flags when completion rates or defect trends threaten the go-live timeline
• Partner with Invisors and Five Below Engineering to distinguish configuration defects from integration issues from data errors - ensuring each is routed to the right owner
Product Partnership & Continuous Quality
• Work as a close extension of the Five Below Product team - attend sprint reviews, design sessions, and workbook sign-offs to stay ahead of configuration changes before they reach testing
• Provide testing input during the Architect & Configure stage - flag testability risks, missing acceptance criteria, or unclear business process logic before build is complete
• Support stabilization and hypercare through the first live payroll cycle - validate post-go-live fixes, run regression tests on production hotfixes, and document known issues for hand-off to the support team
• Build and leave behind a reusable test library: regression scripts, integration test templates, and payroll reconciliation tools that the Five Below team can use for future Workday releases
Required Qualifications
HCM & Payroll Domain Depth
• 7+ years of hands-on experience in HCM systems testing, implementation, or functional consulting - with deep understanding of the hire-to-retire employee lifecycle
• Demonstrated expertise writing and executing test scripts for Core HCM business processes: Hire, Onboarding, Job Change, Compensation Adjustment, Leave of Absence, Termination, and Offboarding
• Strong working knowledge of Workday Payroll - earnings, deductions, taxes, off-cycle runs, payroll audits, and pay calc reconciliation; Puerto Rico payroll familiarity strongly preferred
• Hands-on experience with Workday integration testing: EIB, Core Connectors, Studio, and report-based integrations - including field-level mapping validation and file format verification
• Solid understanding of Workday security model as it affects testing - security group access, business process step permissions, and integration system user (ISU) configuration
Testing Craft & Execution
• Proven track record owning the full QA lifecycle on an enterprise HCM or ERP deployment - not just executing scripts but building the strategy, plan, and governance framework from scratch
• Ability to author high-quality test plans, test scripts, traceability matrices, defect reports, and UAT coordination documents without templates or significant direction
• Experience leading parallel payroll testing cycles - reconciling outputs, applying tolerance thresholds, and obtaining formal sign-off from Payroll leadership
• Strong defect management discipline - clear documentation, severity classification, root cause thinking, and ability to distinguish a configuration issue from a data issue from a process gap
• Experience with test management and defect tracking tools (ServiceNow, Smartsheets etc)
UAT Leadership & Stakeholder Orchestration
• Demonstrated experience orchestrating cross-functional UAT with non-technical business users - HR, Payroll, Operations, and Finance stakeholders - driving accountability and completion on schedule
• Ability to run daily testing check-ins, escalate blockers clearly, and influence workstream leads and vendor partners to prioritize defect resolution
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English - capable of producing executive-ready status reports and presenting testing risk clearly to senior stakeholders
• Experience working alongside third-party implementation vendors understanding the vendor/client accountability split and navigating it effectively
