Head of the Department (HoD) – Mechanical Engineering
Position Overview
The Head of the Department for the Mechanical Engineering will be responsible for providing academic leadership, managing departmental operations, fostering faculty development, ensuring quality teaching and research, and building strong industry linkages. The HoD will play a key role in curriculum innovation, accreditation processes, student engagement, and positioning the department as a centre of excellence in Mechanical Engineering.
Key Responsibilities
1. Academic Leadership
- Lead curriculum design, review, and development in alignment with industry trends and regulatory requirements (AICTE / UGC / University norms).
- Ensure effective delivery of academic programs with high-quality teaching and learning outcomes.
- Encourage and monitor faculty research, publications, case studies, and consultancy projects.
- Organize seminars, workshops, and guest lectures with eminent academicians and industry leaders.
2. Administration & Management
Prepare and manage the departmental budget, resources, and infrastructure.Allocate teaching workloads, assign mentors, and monitor academic schedules.Oversee student orientation, examination, and evaluation processes.Ensure compliance with institutional policies, accreditation standards (NBA, NAAC), and statutory bodies.3. Faculty Development
Recruit, mentor, and support faculty to enhance teaching quality and research output.Facilitate faculty participation in FDPs, conferences, and professional development programs.Conduct periodic performance appraisals and provide constructive feedback.4. Student Development & Engagement
Guide students in academic, career, and entrepreneurial pursuits.Promote student participation in competitions, internships, live projects, and exchange programs.Support student clubs, committees, and professional networking initiatives.5. Industry & External Relations
Establish and strengthen collaborations with corporate organizations, industry associations, and alumni.Facilitate MoUs for internships, live projects, and research partnerships.Represent the department in academic, corporate, and government forums.6. Quality Assurance & Accreditation
Lead departmental efforts for accreditation, ranking, and quality audits.Implement best practices in teaching, assessment, and continuous improvement.Ensure timely submission of reports, data, and documentation to regulatory and accreditation bodies.Qualifications & Experience
Education : Ph.D. in Mechanical or a related discipline (preferred); ME / M.Tech from a recognized institution is mandatory.Experience : Minimum 15 years of teaching / research / industry experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role in academia.Proven track record in academic administration, curriculum development, and research publications.Skills & Competencies
