Description : Position Overview :
The L2 Network Engineer plays a critical role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing telecom network infrastructure. This position involves handling escalations from L1 engineers, performing advanced diagnostics, and ensuring high network availability and performance across core, access, and transport layers.
Key Responsibilities :
Network Operations & Support :
- Respond to and resolve escalated network incidents and performance issues (L2-level support).
- Troubleshoot and resolve faults in IP, MPLS, VPN, DWDM, SDH, and Ethernet networks.
- Monitor network health using tools such as SolarWinds, Nagios, or Netcool, and take corrective actions proactively.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring issues and provide recommendations for network optimization.
- Coordinate with field teams, vendors, and L3 engineers for complex fault resolution and configuration changes.
Configuration & Implementation :
Configure and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Huawei, or Nokia.Assist in provisioning customer circuits, VLANs, and IP routing per service requirements.Support deployment and testing of new network elements and upgrades.Documentation & Reporting :
Maintain accurate network diagrams, configuration files, and operational documentation.Prepare incident reports, RCA documents, and network performance summaries.Update the knowledge base with troubleshooting steps and best practices.Compliance & Quality :
Ensure network changes follow standard change management processes (ITIL framework).Comply with SLAs, KPIs, and company security policies.Participate in disaster recovery planning and business continuity tests.Required Skills and degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or related years of experience in telecom network operations, preferably in an ISP, carrier, or enterprise environment.
Technical Skills :
Strong understanding of IP routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, MPLS).Knowledge of Layer 2 technologies (STP, VLAN, QinQ, LACP, Ethernet).Familiarity with SD-WAN, VPN, and QoS configurations.Experience with network monitoring and ticketing tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, ServiceNow).Hands-on experience with CLI-based configuration and troubleshooting on Cisco / Juniper / Huawei devices.Basic knowledge of optical transmission systems (DWDM / SDH) is a plus.Certifications (Preferred) :
