Position Summary
The Deputy Librarian supports the Librarian / Chief Librarian in managing library operations, supervising staff, and ensuring effective delivery of library services. They help develop policies, manage resources, support research activities, and oversee daily administrative and technical functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Librarian in planning and implementing library policies, procedures, and services
- Supervise and guide library staff, including catalogers, assistants, and technical personnel
- Manage library collections : acquisition, cataloging, classification, and weeding
- Oversee digital library systems, databases, and automated library software (ILS)
- Ensure smooth circulation services and patron support
- Provide research assistance to students, faculty, and researchers
- Organize library orientation, workshops, and user education programs
- Manage budgets, prepare reports, and maintain library statistics
- Ensure compliance with institutional and government guidelines
- Support development of new library initiatives and technologies
