Position Summary
A Library Assistant helps with daily library operations including circulation, shelving, patron assistance, and basic administrative tasks. They ensure the library is organized, welcoming, and functioning smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Assist patrons in locating books, using the catalog, and accessing services
Handle book check-in / check-out, renewals, and reservations
Shelve books accurately and maintain order in stacks
Assist with cataloging and processing new materials
Help patrons with printing, scanning, and computer usage
Maintain records, update databases, and handle basic clerical tasks
Report damaged or missing items and assist in inventory
Support library programs, events, and reading activities
Keep library spaces clean, organized, and user-friendly
Required Skills & Qualifications
MLISc degree preferred
Good communication and customer service skills
Basic computer literacy and ability to use library software
Organizational and attention-to-detail skills
Ability to work as part of a team
Education
Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS), Master of Library Science
