AEMO at the Heart of Energy
AEMO is Australia’s independent energy system and market operator and system planner. AEMO’s purpose is to ensure safe, reliable and affordable energy today, and enable the energy transition for the benefit of all Australians. Australian governments are now committed to a net zero economy for Australia by 2050 and our vision is to enable this. We have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to co-design the future of our energy systems, and our core values revolve around character, commitment, and connection. Join us as we contribute to this significant transition in the energy sector.
About the role
AEMO Operations division is at the forefront of the energy transition, managing power system through the energy transition. This role supports two key priorities in AEMO’s Corporate Plan, operating today's systems and markets and navigating the energy future.
Located in the Network Modelling and Information team, you will play an important role in driving AEMO and industry modelling capability and the future global direction of Power System Modelling. The primary focus of your role will be to support the management of power system data and development of power system study base cases (RMS and EMT) and AEMO’s data request function and support the uplift of operations technology.
What you will be doing
- Provide support for the integration of new models into and update existing models in National Electricity Market (NEM) wide-area RMS and EMT base cases. Perform simulation on the updated base cases to ascertain the model quality.
- Develop and tune seasonal snapshots, RMS and EMT bases cases for the NEM with large quantities of inverter-based generation and customer energy resources.
- Develop and maintain power system models for small signal stability analysis.
- Prepare clear, concise, and high quality written and verbal communications including reports, stakeholder presentations, information packs, briefing papers; contribute to uplifting network modelling and data request management efficiency and quality.
- Support assessment of future requirements for power system modelling, including improving simulation speed, identifying model limitations, migration to new software versions and other essential power system modelling needs.
- Undertake simulation and analysis of the electricity transmission network using specialised computer simulation tools and use these to identify and resolve network model quality issues.
What you will bring to the role
Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering with a discipline relevant to power systems, with experience in electricity transmission network analysis, electrical power system dynamics, stability concepts and assessment techniques.Understanding and knowledge of the physical operation of the electricity transmission systems, network constraints, and the overarching markets.Demonstrated experience in power systems analysis simulation applications such as PSCAD, PSS / E. Experience in PowerFactory, Mudpack and SSAT as well as other analytical software such as MATLAB is desirable.Proficiency in automation of processes and programs with an object-oriented programming language (Python, Fortran etc.) is desirable.Ability to prepare high quality reports suitable for other technical experts, senior management, or external stakeholders. In return some of our benefits to you
Flexible working : work from home, part time, job share, hybrid options, and additional leave optionsProfessional development via projects, industry networks, job rotation, study assistance and more.Give back with up to 4 days of volunteering leave per year.Reward your hard work with annual performance bonuses (subject to eligibility).Embrace a healthier you with our wellness program, discounted health insurance, gym perks and our comprehensive Employee Assistance Program (EAP).About Our Process
