Job Title : Redis Database administrator – L3 / L4 Platform / Database Administrator

Job Description :

We are seeking an experienced Redis Platform SME (L3 / L4) with proven expertise in Redis Enterprise and Azure Cache for Redis to design, operate, and optimize Redis infrastructure across cloud and on-premises environments. This role will serve as the escalation point for Redis platform operations , ensuring high availability, performance, scalability, security, and compliance for mission-critical enterprise workloads. The SME will drive architecture, daily operations, lifecycle management, automation, and best practices, while partnering with engineering, DevOps, and application teams.

Responsibilities :

1. Architecture & Design

Design and implement Redis Enterprise (Enterprise & Flash) and Azure Cache for Redis (Standard, Premium, Enterprise) deployments.

Architect multi-region Active-Active clusters with CRDTs for global scale and zero-data-loss replication.

Define sharding, clustering, and persistence strategies (RDB, AOF) aligned with workload needs.

Evaluate and enable Redis Enterprise modules (RedisJSON, RediSearch, RedisTimeSeries, RedisBloom, RedisAI, RedisGraph).

2. Provisioning & Deployment

Deploy Redis platforms using Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes Operators, and ARM templates .

Configure multi-tenant Redis clusters with namespace isolation, ACLs, and RBAC.

Integrate Redis with cloud-native features like VNET, Private Link, IAM, and Key Vault.

3. Operations & Monitoring

Establish monitoring / alerting for latency, memory usage, fragmentation, replication lag, and persistence.

Tune eviction policies (LRU, LFU, TTL-based) and optimize command usage.

Ensure 24x7 availability through proactive performance tuning and monitoring.

Analyze slow queries using SLOWLOG and optimize application patterns.

4. Performance Optimization

Conduct load testing / benchmarking (redis-benchmark, memtier_benchmark).

Optimize throughput with connection pooling, pipelining, and batching .

Tune memory policies and address OOM or latency spikes .

5. Lifecycle Management

Manage patching, hotfixes, and upgrades for Redis Enterprise and Azure Redis with minimal downtime.

Plan and execute capacity expansion, scaling, and migrations (on-prem ↔ cloud).

Maintain backward compatibility across Redis versions.

6. Backup, Recovery & DR

Configure automated backups (RDB, AOF, enterprise snapshots).

Test point-in-time recovery (PITR) and verify restore procedures.

Implement multi-region DR strategies and run failover / failback drills.

Define and validate RTO / RPO objectives .

7. Security & Compliance

Enforce TLS in-transit and AES-256 encryption at-rest for Redis data.

Integrate with Azure AD, LDAP, SAML for authentication and access control.

Manage Redis ACLs, RBAC, and key-based policies .

Ensure compliance with SOC2, HIPAA, GDPR, PCI-DSS standards.

8. Incident & Problem Management

Serve as L3 / L4 escalation point for critical Redis incidents.

Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement permanent fixes.

Create and maintain runbooks, SOPs, and knowledge base for L1 / L2 teams.

Participate in on-call rotations for production environments.

9. Automation & DevOps

Automate provisioning, scaling, and recovery workflows.

Integrate Redis into CI / CD pipelines for real-time app deployments.

Implement GitOps workflows for configuration consistency.

Use Redis Enterprise Flash for cost-optimized large dataset management .

10. SME Advisory & Collaboration

Partner with architects, application teams, and security for Redis solution design.

Conduct workshops and KT sessions for engineers and developers.

Evaluate new Redis Enterprise and Azure features and recommend adoption.

Represent Redis platform in audits, vendor discussions, and architecture boards .

Tools Knowledge :

• Cloud Platforms : Azure Cache for Redis (Standard, Premium, Enterprise, Enterprise Flash), Redis Enterprise (on-prem & cloud), AWS ElastiCache, GCP Memorystore.
• Automation & IaC : Terraform, Ansible, Helm, Kubernetes Operators, ARM templates.
• Monitoring & Observability : Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace, Datadog, Azure Monitor, ELK / EFK.
• CI / CD Tools : Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions.
• Security & Key Management : Azure Key Vault, AWS KMS, HashiCorp Vault.

Technical Knowledge :

Cross-platform experience with SQL / NoSQL databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra).

Additional Requirements :

Knowledge on Redshift and Postgres
