Job Title : Professional Diesel Mechanic
Summary
We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team, responsible for servicing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and equipment across various sectors. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent diagnostic skills, and the ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced workshop environment.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose faults in diesel engines and related systems, including fuel, exhaust, cooling, transmission, and electrical systems
- Repair, rebuild, or replace components such as fuel injectors, turbochargers, cooling systems, filters, and starters
- Perform scheduled servicing, including oil changes, coolant flushes, and filter replacements
- Maintain and repair vehicle and equipment electrical systems and controls
- Conduct inspections and safety / emission compliance checks
- Use diagnostic tools, software, and testing equipment
- Maintain a clean and safe workshop environment, and ensure proper handling of hazardous materials
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors, and liaise with clients on repairs and cost estimates
Requirements
Relevant trade certificate or diploma in Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Automotive, Mechanical Engineering Technician, or similarFormal training or apprenticeship in mechanical or diesel systems preferredAt least 2-4 years' experience working on diesel engines / vehicles / equipmentExperience in diagnostics, repair, and rebuilding of heavy vehicle or industrial machineryStrong technical / mechanical aptitude and good understanding of engine systems, electrical, hydraulic, transmission, etc.Proficient in using diagnostic tools and interpreting technical diagramsAttention to detail and strong problem-solving skillsPhysically fit and able to handle heavy parts, work in workshops, possibly at heights or confined spacesGood safety awareness and ability to adhere to safety, emissions, and environmental regulationsGood communication skills and ability to explain issues to clients or teamEnglish language proficiency (PTE or IELTS certification required)Benefits
Indicative pay : Starting from NZD $31.61 per hour (as per INZ median wage requirement),
commensurate with skills, experience, and industry
