Ship Management Specialist

Job descriptionResearch technical information related to equipment breakdowns, malfunctions, improvements, upgrades or modifications for the reliable long-term performance of the vessels Prepare for scheduled dry dockings, surveys, and repairs on assigned ships, and arranges and manages supply of spares, stores, and services to vessels before scheduled maintenance and breakdown repairs Manage vessels in full compliance with local and international rules and regulations; Analyse ships’ performance and relays this information to the onboard master and chief engineer; Ensure compliance with all necessary operational certification and survey requirements applicable to assigned vessels Visit vessels port; Monitor function and performance during ship visits and initiates effective problem solving of on-board issues, including technical, quality assurance, health and safety, commercial or personnel issues Takes ownership of on-board issues and follows them through to resolution Prepare budgets in the required detail for the yearly operation of assigned ships, scheduled dry dockings, surveys, repairs and ad-hoc modifications and repairs within required timelines. Monitor expenses of assigned vessels and submits monthly variance reporting and tracks against budget Ensure that all reporting employees adhere to company policies and procedures Communicates expectations to direct reports; Perform other duties as required Degree in marine engineering or equivalent Must have at least one year of experience as a technical superintendent in a company managing handy-max sized (or larger) vessels engaged in international trading and must have a minimum of one full year in rank as a chief engineer or have completed three contracts as a chief engineer English language skills, both verbal and written, must be effective and suitable for a multi-cultural working environment Strong technical knowledge Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) Class 1 marine engineer certificate Demonstrates commitment to Company's’s Maritime Resource Management values Previous experience with new-builds and dry-dockings preferred Regular international travel is required and may be on short notice Must have mobility to conduct vessel inspections Will be required to carry a mobile device and check regularly outside of office hours Must maintain a home internet connection for work outside of office hours
Roles and Responsibilities
- Understand the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy and the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies
- Report any environmental noncompliance and / or concern to the manager or members either of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines
- Guide, advise, and monitor vessel operations;
also assists crew performing vessel maintenance
and with company’s Safety Management System (SMS)
ensures compliance withcurrent charterparty terms of employment and other commercial concerns
may sail with Company'sships to reasonably ascertain that they are operated in a safe, reliable and economical way
manages performance andprovides leadership and support to team members
