pathologist is a medical doctor who diagnoses diseases by examining tissues, cells, and bodily fluids. Job responsibilities include performing laboratory tests, analyzing samples like blood and biopsies, writing detailed reports, and collaborating with other doctors to guide patient treatment plans. Pathologists also perform autopsies to determine the cause of death and may supervise lab staff, conduct research, and develop new diagnostic methods.
Core duties
Analyze specimens : Examine blood, tissue samples, and other bodily fluids to identify diseases, abnormalities, or infectious agents.
Perform laboratory tests : Conduct a variety of tests, including microscopic examinations and molecular or genetic assays, to aid in diagnosis.
Write pathology reports : Document detailed findings and diagnoses from test results for other medical professionals.
Provide consultations : Work with other physicians to interpret test results and provide clinical consultation on patient diagnoses and treatment plans.
Conduct autopsies : Perform autopsies to determine the cause of death.
Additional responsibilities
Supervise staff : Oversee and train laboratory staff on diagnostic techniques.
Engage in research : Conduct research and develop new diagnostic tests and treatments.
Maintain professional standards : Ensure compliance with laboratory standards, medical laws, regulations, and safety guidelines.
Stay current : Continuously update knowledge with advancements in pathology and diagnostic methods through professional development.
Requirements
Must be a high school graduate. Further training in child care and development from some registered institution (eg. ACNS ). Proven child care experience with references. First Aid and CPR certification. Safety certification. A valid driving license and a safe driving record.
