Job description

The Science and Natural Perils team primary focus is to bring expert knowledge and scientific expertise into the (re)insurance decision making process. As an Analyst, you will be working as part of a small team of experienced scientists, modellers and actuaries within the Science & Natural Perils at AXA XL's Pricing & Analytics. The primary purpose of this role is to assess third-party catastrophe models for use at AXA XL. The team will recommend where and how adjustments / modifications should be made to the third-party model output to allow for any limitations and weaknesses identified within the model and aligned to AXA XL View of Risk.

What you'll be doing

What will your essential responsibilities include

  • Support the Science and Natural Perils team in the validation of licensed third-party and internal Catastrophe models.
  • Understand portfolio exposure, model limitations and how they affect the modelled results.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts and their impact to the business in a clear and concise manner.
  • Build relationships and engage with wider teams including presenting to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in the development of process automation within the team's activities.
  • Contribute to research projects and other ad-hoc requests.

You will report to Senior Manager, Science & Natural Perils.

Required Skills And Abilities

  • Solid Catastrophe Modelling Experience.
  • Experience with RMS RiskLink and RMS HD Models.
  • Programming and data visulisation experience (SQL, R, Python, Power BI).
  • Relevant experience within (Re)insurance industry, with an understanding of exposure management and underwriting concepts desirable.
  • A self-motivated problem solver with a robust attention to detail and ability to work resiliently.
  • University Degree (MSc) in Mathematical, Computer Science or similar.

  • A highly organised individual with good analytical skills, who is able to work under time pressure.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to extract insights of data and then effectively communicate results to stakeholders.
  • Collaborative team player.
