Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Power System Planning Engineer to support transmission and distribution planning projects for global energy clients. The role involves power system modelling, grid studies, and technical analysis across generation (conventional & renewable), transmission, distribution, and industrial systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, sound engineering judgment, and experience in modern power system planning tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform technical modelling and power system studies for transmission and distribution networks.
- Conduct power flow, short-circuit, transient stability, dynamic, reliability, and protection coordination studies .
- Evaluate generator interconnection , load forecasting, harmonics analysis, and system expansion planning.
- Utilize industry-leading power system analysis software such as PSS / E, PSLF, PSCAD, EMTP, CYME, SKM, Synergi, DigSILENT PowerFactory, Windmil, MiPower, ETAP , etc.
- Apply engineering judgment to evaluate, adapt, and modify standard planning methodologies.
- Develop tools / scripts using Python, Visual Basic, or similar to automate repetitive tasks.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and study documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate with project managers and engineering teams to deliver high-quality outputs within deadlines.
- Assist in developing training materials, process documentation , and knowledge-sharing guides.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring proactive identification of critical path items.
- Work independently while collaborating with global teams across multiple time zones.
- Support on-site or client-facing activities as required, including international travel .
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering / Power Systems Engineering .2–10 years of relevant professional experience in power system planning or operations.Strong verbal & written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear technical documentation.Solid analytical and critical thinking abilities.Experience working with international grid codes, including familiarity with IEEE / NERC / IEC standards.Understanding of transmission and distribution fundamentals , including the impact of distributed energy resources.
